Garrett County was recognized with the prestigious 2025 MEDA Small Community Economic Development Marketing Initiative Award for its “Make It. In The Mountains” campaign — an initiative that highlights the unique advantages of building a business and life in the Appalachian region. The campaign was developed through a strategic partnership with Allegany County Government, the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), and the Maryland Department of Commerce. Garrett County Landowners Urged to Proceed With Caution

With recent legislative developments and increasing activity from utility and energy companies, local landowners are advised to proceed carefully when approached to sign land easement agreements. Legal counsel is strongly recommended before entering any agreement. TGCC Workforce Needs Survey Open Until June 13, 2025

Grantsville Attainable Housing Project Still Accepting Applications

The Garrett County Development Corporation is continues to accept applications from interested homeowners for Garrett County’s first attainable housing project. The development, located in Grantsville, will be a mix of townhomes and single-family homes, and will offer 63 units available to purchase. Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. A refundable deposit will be required when submitting an application. Townhome applications will require a $200 deposit, while single-family home applications will require a $500 deposit. Learn more.

Tri-County Council Offering Small Business Flood Recovery Loans

The Tri-County Council for Western Maryland (TCC) is offering flood recovery loans to Allegany, Garrett, and Washington County businesses affected by the flooding that occurred on May 13, 2025. Loan proceeds can only used be to assist with flood recovery, including clean up/remediation costs, equipment/inventory replacement, and loss of business revenue. Learn more.

SBA Opens Disaster Loan Outreach Center

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will open a Disaster Loan Outreach Center (BRC) in Allegany County, Maryland beginning May 29, 2025, to assist small businesses, nonprofits and residents affected by severe storms and flooding that occurred on May 13th. Small businesses and private nonprofits (PNP) are eligible to apply for business physical disaster loans and may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace disaster-damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory, and other business assets. Flood Recovery Assistance Available for Garrett County Residents and Businesses

Flood recovery aid is becoming available for residents and businesses impacted by the May 13, 2025, flooding in Garrett County and the surrounding region. As recovery efforts continue, both regional and federal partners are stepping in to provide critical financial support. Garrett County Emergency Management will continue to monitor regional impacts and provide updates as more assistance becomes available. Learn more


Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours Set for June 12th

The Garrett County Airport (2G4), 771 Airport Road, Accident, Maryland 21520, will host the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce's June Business After Hours event on June 12th from 5 to 7 PM. The Garrett County Airport is a modern, public-use, general aviation airport primarily used for recreational and business activities, providing resources such as flight school and sightseeing flights highlighting Deep Creek Lake. Click here to register.
