The Garrett County Commissioners recently issued a proclamation to Tri-State Gazebo, Inc., recognizing and celebrating the business's 25th anniversary. Carissa Rodeheaver Receives 2022 Maryland's Most Admired CEO Award

SBA Announces Path Forward for Veteran Small Business Certification Program

Consequential updates to the planned launch of SBA’s new Veteran Small Business Certification Program, including the intent to grant a one-year extension to firms verified by the Department of Veterans Affairs' Vets First Verification Program through the Center for Verification and Evaluation as of the January 1, 2023 transfer date, have been announced. The Veteran Small Business Certification Program will be the Agency’s primary vehicle for handling certification for veteran-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses. Learn more.

Gov. Hogan Announces Major Investment to Realign and Expand US 219 in Garrett County

Governor Larry Hogan recently announced a $77 million investment for realignment and upgrades to Maryland’s section of US 219 and dedication of the roadway to retiring Senator George C. Edwards. Highway signs dedicating the roadway section to Senator Edwards—one for each direction on US 219—were also unveiled. Read more.

Deep Creek Lake Pilot Dredging Update

The State of Maryland has provided $2.7 million funding for the project, design, and implementation. Currently, environmental reviews are pending by Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Department of the Environment, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The pilot dredging project is proposed to begin in the fall of 2023, with most of the active dredging occurring in from late October to early January 2024 during low lake water levels. The project is expected to remove approximately 15,000 cubic yards of accumulated sediment. Learn more.

$47.1 Million in ARC Funding for Economic Diversification in Region's Coal-Impacted Communities Announced

Governor Larry Hogan and the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) recently announced awards of more than $47 million to 54 projects through the POWER (Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization) Initiative, which directs federal resources to economic diversification projects in Appalachian communities affected by job losses in coal mining, coal power plant operations, and coal-related supply chain industries.  Learn more.

Applications are currently being accepted for our FY 2023 Agriculture Marketing Grant Program, a program designed to aid in the promotion of agriculture-based businesses in Garrett County. Any farm, farm business, farm-related business, or farm-related organization or association based in Garrett County is eligible to apply. This is a reimbursement grant.
