Joint-Statement from NAD on Shooting in Buffalo, New York
"Members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church family mourn all loss of life, but especially cry out against mass violence such as what took place this past weekend in Buffalo, New York," begins a joint statement issued by G. Alexander Bryant, North American Division president; Pierre Omeler, Atlantic Union Conference president; Abraham Jules, Northeastern Conference president, and Miguel Crespo, New York Conference president. "We denounce the mindless and premeditated act of hatred and violence. We call on all people of goodwill to use your voices and platforms to denounce hatred and racism in all of its forms. May we use this evil intention as a catalyst to propel us to action and demonstrate that love is stronger than hatred."

Higher Mortality Linked to Consuming Ultra-processed Foods and Red Meat
A recent study published by Loma Linda University researchers says that eating ultra-high processed foods and red meat (separately) may be associated with higher mortality. The study included more than 77,000 participants and considered several different diets, including vegetarian and non-vegetarian. "Our study addresses the question of what can make a vegetarian diet healthy or unhealthy," says Gary Fraser, MBChB, Ph.D., a study author and professor at Loma Linda University School of Medicine and School of Public Health. "It seems that the proportion of ultra-processed foods in someone's diet is actually more important with respect to mortality than the proportion of animal-derived foods they eat, the exception being red meat."
