Pastors Points
In 1912, a French Catholic magazine published an anonymous prayer that has since become known as The Prayer of St. Francis. It was widely circulated during both World Wars and has been set to music by numerous composers.
The short prayer asks God to make us an instrument for God’s peace. To sow seeds of forgiveness, love, joy, and God’s light where there is none. It is God’s peace, but it is our action that spreads it around. In order to sow seeds in the world, we must first sow those seeds within ourselves, too. We are called to be the peacemakers in this unjust and unpeaceful world through the power of the Holy Spirit so that God’s peace and justice will be realized on earth as it is in heaven.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
See you Sunday!
