October 22, 2020 - Issue 11
Dear SCS School Families,

It's hard to believe that the first quarter is complete - that exams are graded and report cards are being distributed, but we did it! First quarter of the 2020 - 2021 School Year is complete. Fr. Tim and I look forward to visiting all classrooms tomorrow to distribute report cards. I am excited to spend some time with each of your students as I continue to learn their names, faces and personalities!

Next week is Red Ribbon Week and we have some exciting things planned for our students including a Kindness Challenge. Please review the calendar of events shared later in this newsletter. It gives all of the details on dress down days and other fun planned for next week. Please remember that this is not meant to be stressful - use things around the house and have fun!

Please join me in congratulating Ms. Katherine Kelly on her new position with Jefferson Parish Public Schools. We will miss Ms. Katherine greatly, but we know she will continue to do great things and wish her well on her new adventure!

Yours in Christ,
Ms. Maria Ward
SCS Principal
Please join us in praying for the repose of the soul of Kendall Alfortish, SCS parishioner who died Monday at LSU. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, most especially, her parents, Kenny & Kristi.

"Eternal rest, grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her!"
Do you want to help end the stigma surrounding mental health issues? Do you have a personal journey you are willing to share?

A group of SCS parishioners have been called together with a common goal of creating an atmosphere of openness and awareness in our community. We discuss issues related to mental health, share personal stories, and set realistic goals for hope and healing within our parish. We spread awareness through social media, issue monthly testimonies, and hold quarterly meetings.

If you are interested in being a part of this awareness initiative, please contact Bridgette Parker at beap1224@yahoo.com.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a crisis, please seek professional resources. To speak with someone immediately, contact National Suicide Prevention Lifeline on 1-800-273-8255 (1-800-273-TALK). If you're ever worried that someone's life is in immediate danger, call 911.
Box Tops For Education Challenge!!!

Can you beat Julie Wilcox? She currently stands at $50+ (over 500 Box Tops!) for this school year starting in July. Who will be top earner by Christmas break?

October 23rd is due date for physical Box Tops. Please send in through your child so the teacher can get credit. And don’t forgot those Community Coffee labels!

If you haven’t already, download the Box Tops App and set SCS as your school. Once you have the app, you can scan store receipts and forward online receipts such as Shipt and Target to receipts@boxtops4education.com. Be sure to credit your favorite child’s teacher. You can also go back in your inbox and forward any past receipts you haven’t been credited for.

We are at more than 20% of our goal for this school year already. So why are we trying to get $1000? What do we do with it?

The money goes to the co-op, and it adds it to its bank. So when we “donate” money to playground equipment or to the field of dreams now, our money will go towards that. Contact Heather Helou if you have any questions!
