Maximizing the Full Potential of Each Child by Supporting the Heart and Challenging the Mind
Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have a very important week coming up in Gavin District 37 - Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! The week is set for Monday, May 6 - Friday, May 10. Our Gavin Parent Involvement Group provides the Staff Appreciation signs and a yummy lunch from The Roost! Thank you to this amazing group of parents!

In preparation for this week, please take a minute to acknowledge your child's teacher or D37 staff member by expressing "thank you" through a small note of encouragement. This act of kindness goes a long way and means a great deal to our wonderful staff in Gavin D37!

Also, thank you goes to our families who have chosen to have their children join us at Gavin Central for Summer School. We have 90+ students enrolled! A GREAT response!
For your children,

Dr. Julie A. Brua

South School Welcomes Congressman Brad Schneider
On April 24, our 7th and 8th grade historians learned about the legislative process with Congressman Brad Schneider. Students in Mr. Filipowicz's and Mr. Dean's social studies classes prepared several questions about the following current topics:
  • rising cost of college education
  • global warming
  • improving schools/equity for schools
  • gun control/gun violence
  • the opiod problem
  • immigration policies
  • health insurance
Congressman Schneider also emphasized the importance of a great teacher; our students then provided a huge round of applause!
Strategic Planning Session #3: POG and Action Plans
On Tuesday, April 30, we held our last strategic planning session to set goal areas for the next three years (2019-2020, 2020-2021, and 2021-2022). The groups reviewed the Goals and how those tied to the current Gavin D37 Vision/Mission statements.

The groups then looked at several data sources: student achievement, student technology feedback, community survey, budget and life safety projects, freshman survey, etc. to determine priorities under these goal areas. These data sources provided the critical areas under the goals: What we will achieve and What is our priority work.

During the final meeting, the groups created the nouns for a Portrait of a D37 Graduate and reviewed the final document and action plans. Thank you goes to the 30+ students, staff, teachers, administrators, Board and community members who helped to create the preferred future of Gavin D37.
