Returning to GSAPP During COVID-19

On July 16, the GSAPP leadership team held faculty and staff presentations to discuss safety guidelines that will be in place as we begin our process of returning to GSAPP over the course of the upcoming semester and academic year. These meetings were a first step to orient everyone to the GSAPP-wide expectations and plans, and to be a starting point for ongoing dialogue as we move forward in uncertain times. GSAPP is looking forward to welcoming all of our new students in the fall and reconnecting with our returning students! In order to create a safe environment that protects our students, faculty, and staff, GSAPP will be following all university-wide guidelines regarding the health and safety of our premises. We hope that everyone will check the following guidelines before returning to GSAPP:

Individuals should indicate their intent to come to campus in advance on the GSAPP building calendars
Face Coverings are required to enter the building and in common areas
6’ social distancing must be maintained
Adherence to posted room occupancy recommendations and building capacity limits is required
All occupants must complete assigned attestation online prior to arrival (see link/QR Code) daily
Remember to practice hand washing & other personal hygiene and stay home if you’re not feeling well!
All occupants will enter the building using swipe access and must have ID available
All visitors must check in on the GSAPP Visitor Log, complete an attestation, and wear a visitors pass (if provided)
Clinical Spaces may require temperature check before entry

Dr. Carol Lidz's Book to Be Released This Year

A new book, Women Leaders in School Psychology, edited by GSAPP alumna Carol S. Lidz, Psy.D. (1977), will be released by Springer Publishers in early November of this year! Congratulations, Dr. Lidz!

This book offers autobiographical reflections from prominent women school psychologists who are at or near the completion of their careers. It demonstrates the varied and diverse journeys of these women in their own words and examines the ways in which leading women in the field have evolved from primarily frontline service providers to full contributors at all levels of the profession. GSAPP Alumna Featured in Rutgers Today

Students preparing to return to school are facing stresses unique to the type of learning they will engage in this fall. Knowing signs of emotional distress and preparing children to bond with peers and teachers before school begins is important to a successful transition.

New Book Release: Heart Breath Mind: Train Your Heart To Conquer Stress and Achieve Success by Dr. Leah Lagos

On Tuesday, August 11th, GSAPP alumna Leah Lagos Psy.D, B.C.B., an internationally known expert in biofeedback and sport and performance psychology, had her new book released on Amazon. This book is also available at all major book stores.

This book entitled "Heart Breath Mind: Train Your Heart To Conquer Stress and Achieve Success" provides a step by step program for readers to amplify the body's ability to manage stress and simultaneously optimize mental clarity and focus. Readers will be able to increasingly let go of negative emotions, flexibly respond under pressure, and recover in less time following stressors.

Applied Psychology Receives Approval for New Master of Applied Behavior Analysis Program

The Department of Applied Psychology received final approval for the new Master of Applied Behavior Analysis (MABA) program. The program trains students to become exceptional behavior analysts who provide the highest quality of care. In addition, this program will place a strong emphasis on clinical research training. The program will help to meet the shortage of behavior analysts (e.g., BCBAs) in New Jersey and throughout the country. The MABA program is now accepting applications for the fall of 2020.

UPCOMING EVENT

RCAAS to Host Practicum Opportunity Virtual Q&A on 8/20

The Rutgers Center for Adult Autism Services (RCAAS ) is excited to announce that for the first time, it will be able to formally host practicum students! A virtual Q&A session for GSAPP students will take place on Thursday, 8/20, from 1-2 pm via Webex. Learn More >

Wellness in Recovery Conference

The Center of Alcohol & Substance Use Studies will host the Wellness in Recovery Conference on September 19, 2020, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm via ZOOM. This conference will provide education, resources, and networking opportunities for individuals in recovery and their family supporters. Chacku Mathai will be the keynote speaker.

With over 32 years of highly visible community leadership and dynamic executive management in behavioral health, Chacku has offered decades of consulting support to communities, systems and organizations focused on supporting all people with mental health and/or co-occurring substance use conditions to live, learn, work, and play in meaningful, self-directed roles.

CAS to Host the 7th Annual Scholar Poster Session Virtually

The Center of Alcohol & Substance Use Studies (CAS) will host its 7th Annual Scholar Poster Session virtually via Zoom on October 29, 2020 from 12:00-2:00 pm! The session will focus on Alcohol, Drugs, Addiction, and Health.

New data, pilot studies, and non-experimental process posters, as well as posters recently presented (this past year) at national conferences, are acceptable for submission. This year, there are four poster categories: Animal and Basic Experimental, Human Experimental, Clinical Quantitative and Qualitative Studies, and Epidemiology and Public Health. "Best Poster” awards will be given to submissions in each poster category. Sign up now >
