Fri Nov 15, 2019 10:00AM - 11:00AM
Sponsored by Spectrum
In this informal conversation with attendees, Liam Dacey (ND ’04) will share memories of his past experiences at Notre Dame, invite perspectives on the present state of LGBTQ+ acceptance at the university, and consider what future developments might hold, including the Supreme Court’s upcoming decision about employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and transgender status.
Liam Dacey  is a 2004 graduate of Notre Dame. As a student, he co-founded the legendary  Queer Film Festival , which was subsequently a catalyst for a year-long campus discussion about academic freedom at Notre Dame. After graduating, he provided leadership and support to numerous LGBTQ+ groups that have formed on campus and off, including OutreachND, the 4 to 5 Movement, and Prism, and he is a past-president and current board member of  GALA ND/SMC : Gay & Lesbian Alumni of Notre Dame, which still awaits official recognition from the university’s Alumni Association. He currently works  for Lambda Legal , the oldest and largest national legal organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and everyone living with  HIV .

Student Spotlight
Gender Studies is about understanding people, both yourself and others. Gender Studies teaches us how human identities are shaped by gender and related traits such as sex, sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, religion and nationality. Through Gender Studies, we not only strive to understand people better, but because of this endeavor, we hopefully become more understanding people.
