The Charlestown Division of the Boston Municipal Court (BMC) and its Probation Department, which established the Charlestown Addiction Recovery Treatment (CHART) Program in partnership with the Charlestown Coalition, has been in full operation since
May of 2013.
CHART is a specialized court session which assists individuals on probation who have been diagnosed with chronic Substance Use Disorders. These individuals voluntarily participate in court-stipulated drug treatment and supervision as an alternative to incarceration. On December 19th, we celebrated two men, Orlando Ambert and David Couto, who successfully completed the program. Our thanks to the collaborative effort from so many providers and court officers who work tirelessly to make this program a success. A special thank you to the Superintendent of the Suffolk County House of Corrections, Yolanda Smith, who gave a heart-felt key-note address to the celebrants and active CHART participants.
We are so inspired by Orlando's and David's commitment, determination, and tenacity. We wish them all the best as they continue along their journeys.
