Building a Foundation for the Future
Welcome Back!
Dear Putnam Valley Community,

With open arms and smiling faces, we welcomed students back into our buildings. The energy has been restored to our buildings and our classrooms are again filled with students eager to learn alongside their peers. Our staff members rejoice in the fact that their classrooms once again resemble the student-centered learning environments of years past and not rows of desks, reminiscent of the “industrial model” of classroom spaces. Collectively, we are looking forward to a school year filled with academic rigor, student wellbeing, and a safe and healthy return to in-person learning.

The health and safety of our students and staff remain our highest priority. As we greeted students returning to school today, we witnessed universal compliance regarding the masking mandate issued by the NYSDOH and thank all of our families for their continued support. We remain confident that universal masking along with the other health and safety protocols we have in place will allow us to keep our building open and our students learning in our classrooms.

Our re-openings plans were designed around this year’s atypical school calendar and provide students and staff with an opportunity to safely and efficiently transition back into school. Everyone is eager to return to a more normal school schedule.

Please continue to play your part in helping to keep our schools open. Although there will no longer be a requirement to complete a student screening each morning, it is more important than ever to keep your child home if they are not feeling well and see your pediatrician or another medical professional. If your child was exposed to an individual who tested positive, please follow the appropriate quarantine guidelines and have your child tested.  (reopening information including quarantine details) Together, we should be able to keep our schools safe and our students in class.
Sincerely,

Dr. Jeremy Luft

Congratulations to our IB Diploma Recipients!
Our High School was authorized as an International Baccalaureate School in 2019, and this year we proudly celebrate our first-ever IB Diploma recipients. The fact that all 16 of the inaugural diploma candidates met the rigorous requirements necessary to earn the globally recognized diploma is extraordinary. A tremendous achievement. Congratulations to all our students and to all of our staff who guided them along the way.

Jumping for Joy!
We are jumping for joy to be back in school with our students. We caught students doing just that here with AIS Math teacher, Mr. Brandon Hvisch during arrival on the first day!

Middle School Staff Spotlights
Laura Sherwood is a member of our Technology Support Services and primarily supports PVMS. Teachers and administrators rely on Laura's quick thinking and technology prowess, as well as her tireless readiness to help whenever needed. She was instrumental in helping our MS prepare to reopen this fall and ensured all of our students had everything they needed to be successful 21st century learners! Laura says, "I love coming to work every day and learning something, and I especially love being able to help the students and the staff navigate new technology."
Brian Mansfield is the head PVHS/PVMS Custodian and supervised various summer projects at the Middle School this year. Thanks to Brian's hard work, leadership, and attention to details, our students returned to sparkling classrooms, fully renovated bathrooms, and newly installed flat screens. Our Middle School hallways also shine brightly thanks to the work Brian and his team do to prepare our floors every year for new foot traffic!
#TigerPride: PVHS Students Honored by NYSSMA
We are proud to announce that Victoria Spitzer has been selected to represent Putnam Valley High School as a clarinetist in the 2021 NYSSMA All-State Symphonic Band this December! In addition, Ben Lowder (Tuba) has been selected as an alternate to this same ensemble. Upon hearing the news, Dr. Luft shared: "A tremendous accomplishment! Kudos to Victoria and Ben and the teachers who supported them along the way. Congratulations!" Victoria and Ben are pictured here with their HS band teacher, Mr. Ryan O'Dell.
