The countdown is on for Sunday School and LOGOS!
The Arkive: Ark and Dove's Newsletter
All are invited to celebrate the 11th Sunday after Pentecost at both the 9:30 am (choir led) and 11:00 am (band led) worship services!
Message from Pastor Tim
Dear Friends of Members of Ark and Dove,

It is great to be back among you after one week of education leave and two weeks of vacation.  During my education leave I visited two monasteries in New Mexico and kept prayerful silence for five days. It is much easier to listen for the holy, when we are not talking.  It seems like that lesson needs to be relearned often.  I do very much enjoy leading worship at Ark and Dove each week, but it was also really refreshing and renewing to attend four to six worship services per day and to have no leadership responsibilities. I am ready to dive into the new program year at Ark and Dove.

As school starts in the first week of September, the staff and the session and deacons have been turning their attention to fall and winter planning. Band and choir are starting soon. Sunday School launches on September 8th and Logos on October 1st. Jon’s Wednesday morning lectionary discussion group is on October 2 with pub theology that evening. A new members inquirers seminar, Saturday, October 26th at 8:30, Equipping the Saints on October 30th. Keep checking the Arkive for updates and new opportunities.

I also am offering a beginner's Bible study , Your Bible, the Study Begins by Kerygma on Tuesday evening, beginning September 17, 7 pm to 8:30 for nine weeks, skipping the week of Winter Relief.  What is the Bible? How did we get it? What is the Old Testament? What is the New Testament?  This group is tailored for beginners, not for folks with lots of Bible study experience. The cost is $15 for the book. Sign up in the lobby.

I hope your summer has been rejuvenating!

In Christ,

Pastor Tim
Walk with us as we wrestle to find a way to reveal Thy life and Thy spirit and Thy mind, O God, that we may be true to the light.
- Howard Thurman
This Sunday we welcome Mackenzie Kirby on violin as part of the prelude music. She will be playing a charming gavotte from the opera "Mignon" by French composer Ambroise Thomas. We continue with our worship with an introit from the Taizé community, Come and Fill Our Hearts (Confitemini Domino). The choral anthem is by an English composer, Jan Reese, and is a gentle, sensitive setting of the Alleluia in a minor mode.

Please be on the lookout for information and sign-ups for opportunities within Ark & Dove's music ministry as we get closer to September!

If you have school-aged children, you are invited and encouraged to take the Children's Music Ministry Survey .
We are planning our music opportunities for this coming year, and we would like to hear from you!
There is still a call to help build our audio group for the band-led service. A regular rotating schedule will begin this September with the start of the new school year. Please mark your calendars for Wednesday August 28th at 7pm for those interested in learning how to work the audio board as I will be teaching an overview of the system.

God bless,

Director of Contemporary Music

Anne Arundel County Back to School Program Update
On July 28 we began this year's Back to School partnership with Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the Department of Social Services. Social Services matched Ark & Dove with 35 students at Ridgeway Elementary School, and thanks to your generosity we have already signed up sponsors for all of the students. If you wanted to sign up but didn't have a chance, consider contacting the Back to School program at 410-269-4462 or 410-269-4461. Or, you can be a big help to Meade Middle School students by donating loose supplies at church. We have a list in the church lobby of the most-needed items. The mission ministry will deliver the supplies, or you can take them straight to the school. For questions contact Greg Makar (301-483-8255,
CANNED BEANS (garbanzo beans, black beans, refried beans, etc.). Please drop off food items in the Mission Zone bin.  Thank you for your donations!
Immigrant Family Assistance Needed
The Mexican Refugee Family that Ark and Dove assisted two years ago is currently providing care for two minor, US-born citizens whose parents have been deported back to their home countries. I am looking for help in assisting them with the process of gaining US passports for the youths so they can return to their parents’ home country.

I could use some help researching or making calls to determine what the next steps might be to certify a document currently in Spanish, determine the needed documentation and places to go for them to apply for the youths’ passports, so anyone with some legal expertise (even if the legal expertise is not in immigration) or state department knowledge would be helpful.

The family also has two more mouths to feed, so anyone who feels called to once again provide grocery gift cards to help them can leave them in the box in the office marked for this purpose (Shopper’s Food, Giant and general gift cards are best).

For details and more information, please reach out to me directly: Laura Willoughby Perry, 410-507-7129,

Sight and Sound Update!
We have reserved 15 tickets @ $69 for Friday, December 6, 3:00 pm performance. The number of reservations can be changed, but this is the price for all tickets during Fridays. At least two thirds of available tickets had already been reserved. We can change this number of tickets through October. If we have just one person in the group with a military ID (active or inactive), the price drops to $62.10. Somehow, I think we will find one person with a military ID who is going. We will pick up tickets at the box office to get the discount. Carpooling is still the plan. Please contact Joan Berry (410)672-5237 or
