Grades 10-12 Students:
Apply Now for a Spring Break Leadership Institute!
High school students interested in becoming leaders while also serving the community can apply for the Service in Schools Leadership Institute! The program consists of a five-day in-person Institute during spring break, from Monday, April 18 through Friday, April 22, 2022, and two virtual after-school sessions in May 2022. Throughout the program, students will work in small groups to learn about local issues and develop a live virtual lesson for students in grades 3-5 that will be presented to elementary school classes in late spring 2022. Student Spotlights: P.S. 132 Conselyea School & J.H.S. 216 George J. Ryan |

Students at P.S. 132 Conselyea School and J.H.S. 216 George J. Ryan were inspired to make a difference for the community in honor of the MLK Day of Service on January 17, 2022.
Students from both schools hosted an essential needs drive to collect toiletries and clothing items, such as pajamas and winter accessories, for those in need.

At P.S. 132, the Brothers of Distinction group, which is part of My Brother’s Keeper initiative, helped to coordinate the essential needs drive. To launch the collection and inspire their classmates to support the drive, students in the Brothers of Distinction group led fellow students in reciting the “Be Love Pledge” from It Starts With ME! by Dr. Bernice A. King (Martin Luther King Jr.’s daughter) and Dr. Kimberly P. Johnson.
Both schools received an outpouring of support and donations from their communities.
Students at P.S. 132 created heart-shaped gift tags covered with words of positive affirmations that were attached to the donations.

Learning for Justice
Learning for Justice (formerly Teaching for Tolerance) provides free resources to educators who work with K-12 students. Educators can use materials from Learning for Justice to supplement their curriculum, inform their practices, and create inclusive school communities where youth are respected and valued. Through classroom resources and professional development training for educators, Learning for Justice helps educators create inclusive learning environments in order to achieve greater equity.
