GLOBAL REPORT—The time in which Generation Z will be impactful on travel is fast approaching, and new research from Booking.com highlights how many members plan to be active international travelers over the next decade.

The generation, defined in  Booking’s research as people between 16 and 24, has a growing appetite for travel, with 39% planning to “have visited at least three different continents over the next 10 years” and 30% planning to study abroad. Not surprisingly, 67% say they’re “excited for all the places they’ll travel to in the future.”

Speaking with HNN via email, Robert Cole, senior research analyst for Phocuswright and founder of RockCheetah, said it’s important to look at Gen Z early in their traveling lives.
He said he sees this phenomenon with his own daughter, whose travel planning process boils down to identifying the ideal experience, setting a budget and finding the best value for that budget.

“My assessment is that Gen Z isn’t that much different from other generations; it is simply a life phase,” he said. “The one difference is technology, which makes trip planning much easier.”

Carol J. Gallegos – CLIA Board Member and Chef Extraordinaire
Carol J. Gallegos formed Gallegos & Associates Real Estate, Inc. in 1999, specializing in Hotel/Motel Brokerage. In 1994 she founded the Marcus & Millichap Hospitality and Lodging Division in Arizona. She holds a Master’s Degree in Business Management with a focus on Hotel Management and Accounting. She has extensive experience in the marketing and negotiating of commercial real estate transactions.
During her 25-year career Carol has worked extensively with major national hotel executives and principals in marketing their assets and negotiating successful transactions on their behalf. She has represented owners that include Hospitality REITS, Banks and single asset owners for all sizes of properties from large to small.
Carol first attended the CLIA (California Lodging Industry Association) Expo in 2016.  She says she was impressed with the organization and the attendees: “The Expo is a powerful, one day event that offers Hospitality Professionals access to other Hospitality professionals.”
Carol says she was impressed with the Scholarship Program as well as CLIA’s commitment to improving the industry through training and involvement in the California Legislative process. “When I was approached by a current board member to join the board, I jumped at the chance. It’s an opportunity to help the industry grow and to make significant, meaningful changes that will result in improvements to our industry on an ongoing basis.”
As a stress reliever, Carol likes to cook and share her lovingly prepared food with friends and family. For the most part, this has been a great success, but she reports that one time she nearly met with disaster. She tells the story with a laugh: “I had just taken a bread making class and decided to make some French bread. When I put it in the oven, I turned it on BROIL and not BAKE. Pretty soon smoke was billowing into my kitchen. Fortunately, I have friends in the Fire Department so tragedy was averted!”
