Well that was a big break. Locked down at home, dreaming about the end of the ski season, and then the beginning of the snow melt, all whilst a lot was going on online and in peoples homes, and at the same time not much paddling action at all was had. We hope you managed to stay safe, and wish you better days ahead.
Like most tour operators and kayak schools, we have been heavily affected by the current global pandemic and the resulting restrictions on movement. In February COVID-19 closed us down for the booking season, with both the Soča and Valsesia trip programmes cancelled, plus both the Valsesia River Festival in Italy and Sjoa River Festival in Norway also canned for 2020. The impact on operations has been significant, and as such the day to day viability came into question at one point. All the large annual fixed costs had gone out in late winter, so facing a potential long term shutdown, we were heading into a tight spot.
Thankfully we were able to start short course operations in Norway by June, and already the corner has been turned for now in 2020. All clients from this past spring bookings, thankfully moved their deposits to 2021. For this we are extremely grateful to have such an understanding people come paddle with us. Thank you all.
So for now we have both a trip and short course programme in Norway. These are of course aimed at those paddlers whom are both local or can travel to Norway freely after restrictions for some nations were lifted on 15th July. We're not expecting big numbers, yet we will be welcoming some familiar faces in August. Come September we have a trip programme in Slovenia too. We hope you can join us, and if not perhaps in 2021. We'll excited to welcome everyone to enjoy great days on the river for us soon. Check out the new Dagger Rewind on the Åseng Canyon of Sjoa in Norway in the image above....lots of fun for every one.
