For the month of April (April 1-April 30), the library will be partnering with the Wheeling Historical Society for an exhibit titled Snap Shots of Wheeling’s Banking History. This is part of the Money Goals Month, a month-long library wide initiative promoting relevant techniques and goals for financial education, including budgeting and planning. The exhibit will highlight pictures, newspaper clippings, and ephemera from banks in the Wheeling area. It will be located on the second floor by the staircase.

The Genealogy Gems Podcast by Lisa Louise Cooke. Lisa’s podcast has been around for more than a decade and downloaded over 2 million times. Her podcasts are approximately 45 minutes long and discuss basic and in-depth genealogy questions. Extreme Genes by Scott Fisher. Fisher’s podcast sounds like a radio show but provides informative information in regards to Genealogy and Family Research. Trust me you won’t want to miss this 50-minute show that hosts a variety of different guest hosts, contains lots of fun music, and is just a joy to both listen to and learn.
Ancestral Findings’ Genealogy Gold by Will Moneymaker. This podcast was created more than 20 years ago and features five-to-ten-minute episodes that provide research tips in regards to family history research. Moneymaker’s 300 plus podcast episodes discuss birth records, newspaper archives, social security index, and much more.

DATING PHOTOGRAPHS THROUGH CLOTHING

Family photographs are hard to date once the generation pictured has passed away. Ellie Carlson of Ellie Presents will help you explore popular silhouettes, clothing and essential facial recognition. You may bring photographs with you to the program, where we’ll date them for you, using the techniques outlined in the presentation. Newspapers hold an astounding amount of genealogical and local history information other than obituaries. Learn how to find the hidden gems in newspapers like claim day notices, cards of thanks, society news, tax notices and more. Learn how to locate digital copies of original newspapers as well as what online indexes and abstracts exist. Registration required.
