The City's General Plan Update team are preparing responses to the extensive public comments received on the Draft General Plan Update and the associated Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR).
In order to be as responsive as possible to community concerns and recommendations, the project team will substantially revise and recirculate the DEIR. Prior to recirculation of the DEIR, various components of the project will be revised and once again made available to the public.
A City Council public workshop on the revised project is tentatively scheduled for January 29, 2025.
Public comment on the project indicates that the community continues to support the community vision and guiding principles accepted by the City Council in Fall 2021. There remains a strong consensus on channeling future housing and employment growth into Oceanside’s already urbanized commercial corridors, expanding mobility options, enhancing the visual character of the City, protecting sensitive habitat and other natural resources, conserving farmland, reducing the City’s carbon footprint, and rendering Oceanside more resilient to potential natural hazards. Public comment focuses on the details of the City’s approach to the transportation network, biological resources, farmland, and climate mitigation. The project team is working to address the comments in ways that support the community vision and align with the guiding principles. We look forward to getting the project and the DEIR back in front of the community for further consideration.
