Q&A with Cairns West Medical Centre's Practice Manager, Makiko Omae
'Managing patient data to improve patient outcomes'
Practice Manager and Team Coordinator of Cairns West Medical Centre, Makiko Omae, shared her experience on how Topbar has benefited her practice by providing a quick and easy way to manage patient data. As a result, Topbar is a tool that helps general practice with accreditation and improves the quality of care.

“Topbar makes it a quicker and easier process to update patient information, which not only assists in our accreditation but improves the quality of our patients’ care.” Makiko Omae, Practice Manager and Team Coordinator, Cairns West Medical Centre.

My health for life : Increasing risk assessments for cardiovascular disease
The My health for life Topbar App notifies the Doctor when a presenting patient is eligible for QLD Health's My health for life program.

An automated notification appears when a patient is eligible for a risk assessment and participation in the program.

The App provides automated decision support to help doctors better manage serious chronic disease, including cardiovascular disease. It also provides an opportunity for Doctors to participate in preventive health, in accordance with RACGP Guidelines for accreditation.

Topbar is available for FREE from licensed PHNs. Contact your local PHN to find out if you are eligible for Topbar.

Registrar View - CAT4 Webinar
Registrar CAT4 provides supporting information for practice accreditation and reporting as a training post for Registrars. It allows the practice to report and manage Registrar activities. It provides graphical reports on the range of clinical presentations a Registrar has seen in the practice compared to the full set of presentations that are being seen at the practice. This enables the practice to ensure the Registrar is seeing a good coverage of practice presentations. It also provides graphs of clinical information that should be recorded in a patient's record. This can help determine if a Registrar has not carried out activities that should have been reviewed as part of the consultation. However the reports used in this module are also useful for a practice manager to look at overall presentations and data quality for all providers.

Registrar view is included free of charge in all CAT Plus software

Learning Focus:

  • Become familiar with all reports provided in the registrar view module
  • Be able to apply the relevant filters to create meaningful reports on any provider (including registrars) at their practice

Pen CS gives back: $6,000 raised to build primary school in Sri Lanka
The Pen CS office enthusiastically raised over $6,000 to build a school in Sri Lanka, in support of one of our team member’s charity project. We are excited to announce the school opened on 6 th February, 2019.

Shani, a valued member of our Pen CS support team, set out to make a difference in the lives of year 5 school children in rural areas of Sri Lanka by opening a school, Kalpe New School. Her goal was to raise funds to build a school that accommodates up to 60 children, allowing year 5 children to continue their education.

If it wasn’t for faithful supporters like you (Pen CS team), those children's school education would have been discontinued. So thank you everyone for supplying the funds and also encouraging me… we all together made a huge difference in those school kids’ lives.” Shani Perera, Support, Pen CS.
