December 2024: The Generations After Newsletter

To celebrate Hanukkah, we are holding an in-person event on December 15th—a gala intergenerational luncheon and party, complete with Hannukah foods, games, dancing, and entertainment. We are excited to see everyone in person for the first time since the pandemic! We are delighted that 3GDC is co-sponsoring the event with us. Please see registration details below, and be sure to sign up quickly, as space will be limited.

The event will be preceded by Gen After’s annual membership meeting and Board elections at noon. At 12:30 we'll start the party and luncheon. Be sure your membership is current so that you will be eligible to vote. You can view the bios of the Board nominees on the Gen After website.

Is there a story behind your family hanukkiah? Or perhaps you have more than one hanukkiah in your home. Feel free to send a picture(s) and story to us at genafterdc@genafterdc.org and we will share it in the next newsletter. Here is a link to the story behind one special hanukkiah that was hidden in Poland, then Finland and which now resides in Yad Vashem's new collection center. We hope you enjoy it.

Hoping to see you at the Hannukah celebration!!

President

Gen After Remember a Child Program

Are there b'nai mitzvah coming up in the family?

The Remember A Child (RAC) program pairs adult and young b'nai mitzvah students with children murdered during the Shoah before they were able to have a bar or bat mitzvah. Participants receive a scroll of remembrance, biography, and links for additional information about their child. More than 800 b'nai mitzvah students have enriched their milestone simcha by participating in this meaningful program. Contact RAC Coordinator Barbara Brandys for information and click for details.

Holocaust Survivors–The Last Generation

Child survivors meet the third Sunday of each month. Join the Zoom call or contact Ayana Touval for more information.
