Generations United is pleased to share the latest set of free resources, developed with support from RRF-Foundation for Aging, aimed to strengthen and expand intergenerational programs. The new publications—Making the Case for Intergenerational Programs, Fact Sheet: Intergenerational Programs Benefit Everyone, and Staying Connected While Staying Apart: Intergenerational Programs & the COVID-19 Pandemic—support the growing field of practice by increasing the knowledge and skills of people working to connect and support older adults, children, and youth. Humans of Dementia 2021
Generations United is proud to partner with Hilarity for Charity, Fujifilm, the Bob and Diane Fund, MemoryWell, and Photoville for our 2nd annual Humans of Dementia Storytelling Contest. If you're a high school or college student, join our movement. All you have to do is profile someone who is living with or someone who has passed from Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia, using written or photo storytelling. Nearly 50 million people worldwide have dementia. Join the cause and share your story. Learn more.

Generations United will be presenting several awards honoring outstanding individuals, programs, and best practices in the intergenerational field during the Generations United's 2021 Virtual Intergenerational Conference, which is being held virtually June 15-17, 2021. Nominate someone for the Generations United Intergenerational Innovation Award, Grandfamilies Award, and the Brabazon Award for Evaluation Research. WISE Project connects generations of LGBTQ community in North Carolina

What grew out of a need to address ageism and intergenerational disconnection within the LGBTQ community became the WISE Project. Created by Gray Rodgers in early 2020, the Chapel Hill-based project aims to address the needs of LGBTQ people in North Carolina across generations through community and peer-support programs, and creating spaces to share stories. Our Smallest Warriors, Our Strongest Medicine: Overcoming COVID-19

This children’s storybook is a re-telling of My Hero is You, developed by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Reference Group on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings (IASC MHPSS RG). An intertribal workgroup convened to re-write this story and create illustrations that represent Indigenous peoples, values, and communities.

Think Intergenerational - Funding Opportunities
NEW! Support for Community Gardens in the U.S. and Canada. The Nature's Path Gardens for Good program will award 21 grants of $5,000 each to community gardens that make fresh organic food more accessible in the local neighborhood. Deadline: March 24, 2021. Learn more.

NEW! J.M.K. Innovation Prize. This initiative of the J.M. Kaplan Fund, seeks to identify, support, and elevate innovators who are spearheading transformative early-stage projects in the United States. Each Prize will provide a cash award of $150,000 over three years, plus $25,000 in technical assistance funds. Deadline for first-round applications: April 30, 2021. NEW! Support for Youth-Led Service Projects. The Riley's Way Foundation's Call for Kindness program empowers young leaders throughout the country to use kindness and empathy to create meaningful connections and positive change. The program will provide grants of up to $3,000 to up to 30 teen-led projects in 2021. Deadline: April 7, 2021. Learn more.

RRF Foundation for Aging—which has awarded over 5,000 grants of more than $255 million—is accepting proposal applications for its next grant cycle in their priority areas: caregiving, economic security in later life, housing, social and intergenerational connectedness. The Foundation will also remain open to considering compelling applications on other topics. Deadline: May 1, 2021. Learn more.

The Upswing Fund for Adolescent Mental Health is a collaborative fund focusing on the mental health and well-being of adolescents who are of color and/or LGBTQ+. Created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has had a devastating impact on young people across the United States, The Upswing Fund will provide critical resources to front-line organizations that provide the services that young people rely on. Learn more about their fall grant opportunity which opened October 20th.

Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder May Reduce Substantiated Cases of Child Abuse and Neglect. This new paper by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) within the Department of Health and Human Services on the relationship between buprenorphine treatment and child maltreatment. The paper finds, for the first time, that increase availability of buprenorphine treatment predicts reductions in certain types of child maltreatment case loads in 25 states. Learn more.

Staying Healthy Across Generations: Vaccines are Essential for All Ages. Generations United's new infographic illustrates that vaccines aren't just for kids-they protect all generations- especially in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Staying up to date on vaccines for the flu, pneumonia and whooping cough are important to protect both older adults and children. Check it out.

Reframing Childhood Adversity: Promoting Upstream Approaches. Join the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities on March 22, 2 pm ET, to hear new recommendations on reframing childhood adversity from the FrameWorks Institute. The event will highlight a new strategic brief that takes recent science and current communications contexts into account and speaks more directly to racial and social justice, while aligning with efforts to reimagine child welfare systems into child well-being systems.
