Kendal at Hanover Early Learning Center
Kendal at Hanover Early Learning Center, a Generations United Program of Merit, builds relationships across generations by providing quality care and education for young children in a retirement community setting. Programming for young children encourages lifelong learning and enriches the lives of the residents who live there. This is an opportunity for older adults and young children to spend time together, with the children’s curriculum as a focal point of the activity. In turn, the program is supporting community, and health and wellness for everyone involved. The benefits for adults include increased activity levels, sensory stimulation, and increased personal value by contributing to the community and to the children’s education. The children gain an extended family, compassion for the aging process, an increase in social and emotional skills, and long-term support for language and literacy. By creating consistent, routine activities that are relationship-based, in a safe place where children and residents can engage, people of all ages can feel valued. Learn more about Kendal at Hanover Early Learning Center here.

The Legacy Project is Accepting Applications for their Intergenerational Changemakers Fellowship
The Legacy Project, Inc., with support from The Eisner Foundation, is launching their Intergenerational Changemakers Fellowship. This is a six-month fellowship created for bold younger and older leaders looking to redefine what civic action means in their communities. Participants will have the opportunity to build a connection with an older or younger adult in their hub city, as well as a national cohort of pairs from other cities. Each pair will engage in a four-month storytelling and writing exercise, culminating in the creation of a collective published book, and a two-month civic engagement project. Pairs will receive a $1,000 stipend to co-launch a civic micro-initiative in their own communities to address an issue they jointly care about. Learn more and apply by October 31, 2025.

Explore the New Intergenerational Housing Manual Created By H.O.M.E.
For nearly 40 years, Housing Opportunities & Maintenance for the Elderly (H.O.M.E.) has been a leader in providing affordable intergenerational housing for older adults with low incomes in Chicago. Their intergenerational housing residences have been home to hundreds of seniors, and their model is recognized as a Generations United Program of Distinction. In 2025, H.O.M.E. worked closely with staff, volunteers, and residents to compile a how-to guide to help other nonprofits seeking to initiate their own intergenerational housing program. "I saw in these programs with teen volunteers how much these groups came to mean to everyone involved — not just an activity on the calendar and not just a requirement for students, but something both students and residents look forward to."
— Marissa Birne, associate director of education at the Center for Aging at the University of Vermont’s Larner College of Medicine
