Happy Holidays from Generations United!

2022 has been an exciting and productive year for Generations United! Thanks in large part to our community of supporters around the world, we’ve worked to improve the lives of people of all ages by addressing the negative impacts of social isolation, which were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. We continue to adapt and pivot to the changing needs of the intergenerational field. Some of our highlights from the past year include:



• Launching the Grandfamilies & Kinship Support Network: A National Technical Assistance Center, a $10 million five-year cooperative agreement with the Administration for Community Living to provide technical assistance to an array of government agencies and organizations that serve kinship families

• Strengthening our Diverse Intergenerational Programs Initiative by revising our Programs of Distinction Certification with an eye towards diversity, equity and inclusion, and hosting a webinar on Cultural Responsiveness and Intergenerational Programs that had close to 400 registrants

• Supporting the development and release of a national caregiver strategy created as a result of the work of the Federal Advisory Council to Support Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, co-chaired by Jaia Lent, and the RAISE Family Caregiving Council

• Elevating the importance of different intergenerational housing models by co-hosting a successful webinar with Nesterly and the Joint Center on Housing Studies at Harvard University, with 340 registrants. We also convened the first learning network on the topic, with over 130 people expressing interest

• Testifying before the Senate Committee on Aging as an invited bipartisan consensus witness speaking about the impact of COVID-19 on grandfamilies

The Conference Planning Committee seeks proposals for educational sessions that will enhance our field’s capacity for developing practices, programs, and policies that benefit individuals of all ages, support kinship and grandfamilies, and build more cohesive and caring communities around the world. The deadline for submissions is January 30, 2023. Download the Word Doc version of the session guidelines and instructions for more information. All submissions must be completed online. 

Recognizing Intergenerational Programs of Distinction and Programs of Merit

Generations United is thrilled to recognize 20 exemplary intergenerational programs from across the country with the prestigious Intergenerational Program Certification (IPC). These new recipients join 23 renewing programs. All of the programs are creatively and effectively engaging younger and older people in activities that strengthen relationships between the generations.
