Volume 20 | Issue 24 | November 26, 2025

As we enter the holidays, it can be a time of joy and connection; it can also be difficult, especially for families, young people, and older adults. In a time when so many are feeling the weight of economic strain, uncertainty, and the ongoing challenges in our communities and across the world, we know that even small moments of connection and support matter. Connecting across generations strengthens our communities, and the work of everyone in this network inspires us to reach further.

Thank you for being with us. Whether you read, share, support, or engage with our work, your presence and compassion help build a more connected, caring community for all generations.

We are deeply grateful for you.

Thanksgiving Through Native Perspectives Resources

Here are a few resources to reflect on the deeper meaning of the holiday and to raise awareness of American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage:

The Great Thanksgiving Listen: Story Corps

The Great Listen encourages people of all ages to create an oral history of our times by recording an interview with an elder, mentor, friend, or someone they admire. This year, we invite you to join the annual Great Thanksgiving Listen — an opportunity for people to honor someone in their lives by preserving their story for future generations. Learn more.

Chatter Matters: Conversation Across Ages

These cards are designed by Savannah Fishel for East London Cares to spark conversations among neighbors in a safe environment, which can foster true connection. There are questions on 11 different topics, including a bonus "either/or" round. The cards allow people to pick or avoid topics, and choose questions which are rated on a scale depending on how light-hearted they are. Download the cards and instructions.

Intergenerational Policy Update

In our latest Policy Update, we break down what the federal government’s reopening means for families, including the restart of SNAP, WIC, and LIHEAP. We also explain why extending ACA premium tax credits is so urgent, what the new HR 1 SNAP work requirements will mean in practice, and how new federal child welfare efforts are focused on prevention, kinship care, and supporting youth transitioning from foster care. Read the full update here.

Call to action: Contact your Members of Congress to urge extension of the Affordable Care Act premium tax credits, and share how rising health care costs are affecting families in your community. Find your Members & how to contact them.

Upcoming Webinar - Supporting America’s Children and Families Act: Opportunities for Tribes delivering kinship support services

Join us Thursday, December 11, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET for this webinar providing information about new resources afforded under the Supporting America’s Children and Families Act, so that Tribes that operate kinship support service programs, including kinship navigation programs, can prepare to take advantage of them. Our presenter for this webinar is Network Subject Matter Expert Angelique Day, PhD, MSW.

This new law reauthorizes and updates Title IV-B of the Social Security Act, a critical child welfare law that provides funding to Tribes, states, and territories, to create and operate coordinated child and family services programs. While administered by child welfare agencies, Title IV-B funds can be used for services to support and strengthen families – including kinship families – both inside and outside the child welfare system. The new law explicitly includes kinship families and clarifies that Title IV-B funds can be used for peer-to-peer support programs. It also provides for competitive grants for kinship navigator programs, including Tribal kinship navigator programs, and provides funding to support the evaluation of kinship navigator programs and prevention services.

Learn More and Register for December 11

In keeping with our practice, the webinar will be one hour long, followed immediately by a half-hour open Q&A session.
