Help Us Evaluate Our Racial Equity Toolkits' Impact and Efficacy
In 2020, Generations United—with support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation—released two racial equity toolkits designed to help organizations provide culturally appropriate services to grandfamilies. Later this year, we will release a third resource focused on working with Latinx grandfamilies. We are currently evaluating our existing toolkits’ impact and efficacy. Please read them and complete the following relevant survey. We encourage you to also share them with your networks.

Abuelas en Acción: A Podcast for Our Common Good

Each week, we'll be highlighting a program from our resource, Staying Connected While Staying Apart: Intergenerational Programs and the COVID-19 Pandemic. Next up is Abuelas en Acción: A Podcast for Our Common Good.

This podcast is the result of two abuelas (grandmothers) who care about the future of the U.S. and are ready to seek out and share truths. Together they explore issues that affect Latino health such as social and health inequities, climate change, immigration, and economic justice. They interview experts and activists of all ages who are making a difference in their communities. Learn more.

Culture United
The Dew Breaker by Edwidge Danticat

In this award-winning, bestselling work of fiction that moves between Haiti in the 1960s and New York in the present day, we meet an unusual man who is harboring a vital, dangerous secret. He is a quiet man, a good father and husband, a fixture in his Brooklyn neighborhood, a landlord and barber with a terrifying scar across his face. As the book unfolds, we enter the lives of those around him, and his secret is slowly revealed. Edwidge Danticat's brilliant exploration of the "dew breaker"—or torturer—is an unforgettable story of love, remorse, and hope; of personal and political rebellions; and of the compromises that young and old make to move beyond the most intimate brushes with history. Learn more.

Culture United highlights films, books, music, and TV shows with an intergenerational theme. Do you have any suggestions? Share them with us, and we'll share in the weeks and months to come. We welcome responses or reactions. We'll possibly feature them on our blog. See disclaimer.

“Social insurance is built on the awareness that no one can go it alone. True generational equity means acting on that awareness so that those who come after us, and who stand on our shoulders, can see a little further and do a little better in their turn.”~Robert Ball, former Social Security Commissioner and Founder of NASI
