Cool Ideas
GIVEback GOforward Program
The "GIVEback GOforward" program, a joint initiative of the Ohio departments of higher education and aging, gives those older than 60 an opportunity to volunteer at local agencies to earn tuition waivers at partnering universities and colleges. They can keep them for themselves or give them to another Ohio resident. John Row gave his tuition waiver to Chris Nelson, who he's known since Chris was in fifth grade. Chris earned his associate degree from Columbus State Community College and hopes to go on to finish his bachelor's degree at Ohio State University. Learn more.

Baking Day at Grandma's
Three bouncing little bear siblings, wrapped tight in their winter clothes, can't wait to tromp through the snow for Baking Day at Grandma's!  In a rhyming text that begs to be sung, the bears and their grandma pour and mix and stir--with breaks for hot cocoa and dancing--to create the perfect wintry treat. Then they wrap it up in ribbons to show that sweets are even better when they're shared. With a recipe in the back, this is a perfect family feel-good story. Learn more.

Culture United highlights films, books, music and TV shows with an intergenerational theme. Do you have any suggestions? Share them with us and we'll share in the weeks and months to come. We welcome responses or reactions. We'll possibly feature them on our blog. See disclaimer.

AGE to age
Does Your Program Have What it Takes to be A Program of Distinction?
Does your intergenerational program meet critical needs in your community? Does it provide clear, meaningful roles for participants of all ages and abilities? Do you go above and beyond to train staff and participants? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you may have what it takes to be named an intergenerational Program of Distinction! Each year, we recognize outstanding programs across the country that reflect the rich diversity among programs that involve older and younger generations.  The deadline to apply is August 1, 2018. Contact Irv Katz with any questions.
