Generations United Helps Inform National Report on Caregiving Youth
Generations United is proud to have contributed to the new GAO report on caregiving youth, alongside 15 other national and state organizations. Generations United Deputy Executive Director Jaia Lent and Grandfamilies & Kinship Support Network Director Ana Beltran were interviewed to share insights on the unique needs of caregiving youth—an estimated 3 to 5 million minors who provide care to family members. The report recommends HHS clarify youth eligibility for caregiver support services, a critical step toward better recognition and resources. Read the full report.

Generations United's Policy Update
Last week, the House passed a budget bill that threatens essential lifelines for grandfamilies, children, youth, and older adults across the country. With more than $700 billion in cuts to Medicaid and $300 billion to SNAP, this legislation would place enormous strain on families, especially grandparents and other relatives raising children. This bill would:
- Impose harsh Medicaid and SNAP work and paperwork requirements
- Shift Medicaid and SNAP program costs to states
- Deepen income inequality while doing little to support families
Generations United urges the Senate to reject this harmful bill. Mental health is directly tied to economic stability. Protecting funding for these programs is a way to care for our collective mental health.
Contact your Senators today and speak up for the families in your community. Want timely updates on key policy issues affecting youth, older adults, and kinship/grandfamilies? Sign up for our policy alerts.
