Generations United's Policy Update
On May 22nd, the House passed a budget reconciliation bill that includes more than $700 billion in cuts to Medicaid and $300 billion in cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). If enacted, these will be the largest cuts to Medicaid and SNAP in our history and place enormous strain on families, especially grandparents and other relatives raising children. This bill would:
- Impose harsh Medicaid and SNAP work and paperwork requirements
- Shift Medicaid and SNAP program costs to states
- Deepen income inequality while doing little to support families
Generations United urges the Senate to reject this harmful bill.
Contact your Senators today and speak up for the families in your community. Want timely updates on key policy issues affecting youth, older adults, and kinship/grandfamilies? Sign up for our policy alerts.

Around the country, children are excitedly embarking on their summer vacations. But, for millions who lose access to school breakfasts and lunches, their nutrition to grow and thrive is jeopardized. Thankfully, the Summer Nutrition Programs, along with the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (Summer EBT), support children during the summer months. We're pleased to share this resource, created in partnership with our subject matter experts at the Food Research & Action Center, to help children in kinship/grandfamilies access these important nutrition supports.
