Intergenerational Spotlight

The Legacy Project, Inc. (TLP)

The Legacy Project, Inc. (TLP), a newly designated Generations United Program of Distinction, is a non-profit organization dedicated to connecting college-aged students with older adults in their local communities with the purpose of building strong intergenerational relationships and documenting life histories. TLP seeks to combat loneliness and social isolation felt amongst people of all ages, as well as empower local older adults to share their experiences. Chapters of The Legacy Project, Inc., which are based on college campuses, partner with a local older adult living community. They recruit at both independent and assisted living facilities. The founding chapter of the organization was at Tufts University, but has since expanded to Brown University, Kent State University, the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra, The University of California Berkeley, and The University of Connecticut at Storrs. This expansion has allowed TLP to connect students and older adults in much of the Northeast, with hopes to expand to other regions of the country soon. Funding and Resources

"My grandmother is living proof that grace and strength can exist in the same breath. She is our family’s historian, prayer warrior, and safe place, a walking testimony that love heals and wisdom guides. To be shaped by her presence is to know what legacy feels like while it’s still here. I’m proud to say I am her first grand, Jamarl D. Clark, carrying her light forward."

— Jamarl D. Clark, Generations United's National Center on Grandfamilies Assistant Director
