Local school makes generous $3K contribution

Donation purchases 150 books from Christian publishers

In November, Immanuel Lutheran School awarded us $3,221 in proceeds from the school's annual fundraiser. Each year, the school donates 10 percent of the fundraising total to a local non-profit or community organization. The school's parent-teacher organization selected the library as the 2025 recipient because of our commitment to providing programs and resources to the children in the community.

We committed to using the donation to purchase 150 books from Christian publishers. We've been busily researching, purchasing, cataloging, and processing those books, which are now available for checkout. Click here to see a full list of books purchased with the school's generous gift, and visit us beginning Feb. 4 to see them on display in the foyer.

Beginning players invited to practice playing Texas 42

Two-hour opportunity to practice your newfound skills

Many attendees of the recent 42 class asked for more time to practice. If you're a beginner to Texas 42, join us for a chance to practice playing the game. We'll have tables set up and dominoes available.

Experienced players will be on hand to answer questions. This is not a class; it's just a great opportunity to practice what you've learned. Even if you did not attend the class, all beginning players are invited to practice.

If you need a refresher, you'll find the class slideshow here, and you can download the Texas 42 Reference Sheet here.

Celebrate Valentine's Day by reading with a Book Buddy

Children 12 and younger receive a free Book Buddy when checking out a book Feb. 14

Children love to curl up and read with a stuffed-animal friend who makes them feel comfortable and safe. Even babies and toddlers can develop pre-reading skills by sitting down with a book and looking at the pictures. Our annual Book Buddy giveaway encourages children to spend meaningful time reading.

Children 12 and younger who visit the library and check out a book February 14 will take home a stuffed-animal book buddy to join in their reading adventures (while supplies last!)

Read "new" books first

When checking out multiple library books, prioritize reading books you find on the "new" bookshelves. We designate recent library arrivals by placing a temporary "new" sticker on the spine.

Many of our new books are pre-ordered titles from popular authors. We have faithful readers who often go directly to the new shelves to discover their next great read. Because our new books are typically in high demand, they're limited to a 14-day checkout period with no renewals, so be sure to read them first!

Vinegar Girl

A quick read and a retelling of my favorite Shakespeare, The Taming of the Shrew. It's fresh, funny, and it doesn't let the romance keep it from being a good book. -TR

Number of continuing-education hours earned by library staff in 2025. We studied a variety of topics, including CPR certification, grant management, data analytics, youth services, adult programming, conflict management, overcoming leadership challenges, and visual merchandising.

Eight people attended January's Book Club meeting to discuss Ann Patchett's #1 New York Times bestselling novel Commonwealth, a stirring, sardonic, and sweeping family saga.

February's book is The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls, a witty memoir of an eccentric, intense upbringing. Click here for the complete list of books and meetings for 2026.
