Genesis News and Notes
January 28, 2021
Hello Friends!

While we were serving in Miami, we had the privilege to learn about and support First United Methodist’s annual Foot Washing for the Homeless. For almost 30 years, this congregation has taken up the servanthood of Christ by literally washing the feet of others—300 pairs of feet last year! As the ministry has expanded, podiatry students from a local university have gotten involved; and the congregation has also started to provide fresh socks and shoes for guests.

With Lent around the corner and starting to plan for Holy Week, I can’t help but think about this powerful moment when Jesus showed his disciples the extent of his love (John 13)…he stooped down and took the form of a servant; he humbled himself, putting aside his pride and privilege, and tended to the basic needs of his fellow man. This Sunday we continue talking about what it means to be Jesus-centered, and we will focus on humility and servanthood as a central part of who Jesus was and what he did.

I’m excited for you to join us online or in-person for worship! If you’d like to watch a short video about the FUMC Miami Foot Washing ministry, click here.

Pastors Amber & Paul
With Gratitude...

The Staff-Parish Relations Committee on behalf of the Pastors, Church Council, and whole congregation would like to thank Kelly Adams for her willingness to serve as Finance Administrator this past year. Kelly has been a member of Genesis UMC for 22 years and has served in this role with a kind and helpful spirit.

Starting February 1st, Troy Chapman will act as Interim Finance Administrator. Troy has extensive experience working with non-profit Boards and their financial administration. He is familiar with our operations at Genesis and will step into the duties with first-hand knowledge. Troy will also continue his role on staff as Missions Coordinator.

For all financial matters during this time, please email Troy at

Music Moments
I hope 2021 finds you well and looking forward to more opportunities for expansion of worship and activities in the church and in the community!
Here are some initial updates on current and upcoming events!

This Sunday the Handbell ensemble will be featured in the worship service. I hope you will be able to attend or tune in!

We are starting to plan some unique services for Lent and Holy Week and hope you will be inspired and encouraged by them. Stay tuned!

Some of you may have heard about some recent church organ mechanical issues, but for the time being with the blessing of the organ technician, two of the large church exterior bricks have been lovingly placed upon a chest lid that needs to stay airtight. Please pray over the bricks, that they will help seal the leak for a long time!

Last but not least, I hope you got to hear Pastor Paul share a portion of a song during the sermon last Sunday! I have included a video version by Zach Williams. This song reminds us that God is bigger than any of our circumstances and can truly transform our lives! Click here to listen.
Sunday Morning Parking

We want to remind you that our front parking lot is our community's way of knowing that we are open for Sunday morning worship. Please remember that if you are able, we encourage you to park in front and use the main entrance on Sunday mornings. The back entrance will still be open for those who need closer access and handicap parking, however, we will not unlock those doors until 10:15 AM.

As a reminder, we are keeping safety protocols in place and still need everyone to continue to stop at the table to check out the safety questions and get your hands sanitized.
New Bible Study Continues

Pastor Paul will be leading a multi-week study on the book of James beginning Thursday, January 28th. James is a short and very practical book about how we live out our faith as individuals and a community. We will meet at 1pm on Zoom, and the study will include folks from both Genesis and Christ UMC. Please contact Pastor Paul at to receive a Zoom link for the study. Hope you will considering joining us!

UMW Meets February 2nd

United Methodist Women will meet again this coming week on Zoom. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, February 2nd at 10am and enjoy a time for visiting with a brief devotional. This has proven to be a nice opportunity for getting to know each other better. Last month everyone shared about the first home they bought. This time, we are asking you to share stories about your first car! This should be a fun time for gathering. Hope to see you there.

If you are interested contact Betty Foster at and she will send you the Zoom invitation.
Mark your calendar for February 17th
as we offer a new way to participate in Ash Wednesday this year.

A short video with music and a devotion
will be made available for you to watch online at your convenience that day.
Then, we will have 3 opportunities for you to drive-by
and receive ashes at the church.
9-9:30am | 12-12:30pm | 6-6:30pm

Stay tuned for more details about Ash Wednesday and Lent to come!

Generosity Notes
Memorial Fund

The Memorial Fund allows you to remember or honor a person or event by providing funds for a current ministry of the church. To offer a memorial or honor gift, you may contact the church, mark a gift accordingly or go to our website,
Genesis offers electronic giving, which allows you to make donations on a scheduled, automatic basis. To set up electronic contributions, (checking or savings account or credit or debit card) you can come by the church office and complete an authorization form or go to the church website and give online.

Another great way to give is with a quick text message! Simply send a text to 817-697-2824 with the amount you would like to contribute. Make sure to include the dollar sign before the amount. Within a few minutes, you’ll be sent a text with a link to register. Once your registration is complete you will receive a text verification and a receipt via email.

It is important to know that we can depend on financial support from our congregation members to continue the missions that Genesis provides to so many, as we go through the summer, fall and upcoming holidays.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact Kelly Adams at 817-292-4551 or email her at

Thank you for supporting Genesis!
