Georgetown, Here We Come!
|
|
After months of planning, collaboration, and excitement, registration for the fall PANDAS/ PANS conference at Georgetown has opened. We are thrilled with what this conference will offer to both the medical community as well as our PANDAS Network family of patients, parents, siblings, counselors, school nurses, teachers, and friends.
Day 1 is a CME (Continuing Medical Education) conference that is designed for medical providers, but Georgetown is making possible for our families the unique opportunity to attend these lectures, panels and discussions.
Day 2 will have some of the same speakers, but the content is designed specifically for PANDAS/ PANS families. In these sessions, you will hear the latest research put into practical applications that can be implemented in the day to day lives of those who are currently dealing with a PANDAS/ PANS diagnosis.
Together with Georgetown, we have put together many of the leading experts in the fields of medicine, research and education. It is such an exciting time for our community, and our speakers will share about the latest research and treatment that is changing the course of the future of PANDAS/PANS. Topics will include:
- Diagnostic Criteria
- Mechanisms of PANDAS
- Neuroethical Issues and Obligations in Treatment and Research
- Utilization of Smart Phones to Track Symptoms
- Integrative Approaches to Treating PANDAS and PANS
- Beyond Medical Treatment: Meeting the Needs of PANS/PANDAS Families
- Educational Success for Children with PANDAS/PANS
- Parenting the PANS/PANDAS Child
- Nutritional Neuroscience
- PANDAS/PANS and the Older Child
- Radiologic Imaging and PANDAS
- Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy
- Behavioral Management
- Deep Brain Stimulation as Potential PANDAS Treatment
We hope that many of you will be able to attend. We understand, however, that schedules, finances, illness and other circumstances may make it impossible for some of you. It is our hope that the conference will still serve as an encouragement.
The fact that PANDAS continues to be studied by leading physicians, researchers and universities show that we continue to move in the direction of increased awareness, faster diagnoses, better treatment, and, a cure.

We are excited to announce that after hearing from many in our community about the date change for PANDAS/ PANS Awareness Day we will continue celebrating on October 9th. We were inspired as we heard from many of you about what October 9th means to you. Many in our community have worked hard with local and state governments to have this date officially recognized. Thank you for making this day so important!
