Georgetown Gateway Project June 2022 Update

Construction Progress

Dunwoody Public Works Director Michael Smith recently described the Georgetown Gateway Project as "the largest and longest construction project to date." With any public works project, the utility relocation phase is often difficult and time-consuming. Utility relocation for the Georgetown Gateway project has been underway for almost a year. During this time, the new water and gas mains have been replaced throughout the corridor, and most of the overhead utilities north of Old Spring House Lane have been moved to new poles.

The remaining utility work includes Georgia Power and Comcast relocation of overhead lines south of Old Spring House Lane. AT&T must also relocate overhead and underground lines throughout the construction zone.

Based on the progress of the utility work, the city’s contractor, Lewallen Construction, has been able to begin work on the north end of the project (primarily between Kent Ave and N. Shallowford Rd). This includes new curb work, portions of the new storm drain system, and segments of the sidewalk in the northwest quadrant. The contractor plans to continue with shoulder improvements this summer in the section between N. Shallowford and Dunwoody Park.

Some materials for projects like this are becoming more difficult to secure. Fortunately, we've had a recent delivery of stormwater pipe to keep the project moving. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2024.
