Wishing you a restful and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday! Happy Thanksgiving! Edward Healton, Executive Vice President of Health Sciences.
Special Announcement
The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) has accredited the baccalaureate in nursing, master’s in nursing, doctor of nursing practice and post-graduate certificate programs in the School of Nursing & Health Studies for 10 years.
I’d like to congratulate all faculty and staff involved. This is a special achievement and is a very important affirmation of the high standards of performance of nursing at Georgetown. Edward B. Healton, MD, MPH, Executive Vice President, Health Sciences
Native American Heritage Month
When Yasmin Zuch (NHS’20) was an undergraduate at Georgetown, she served as a leader in the Native American Student Council on campus and received a prestigious Udall Undergraduate Scholarship to focus on Native health care.
GU Public Health Updates
Although D.C. is easing the indoor mask mandate this week, Georgetown’s indoor mask requirement will remain in effect at least through the end of the fall 2021 semester. All individuals, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear masks indoors in university-owned or operated buildings except when eating or drinking, when alone in a private office, or when in a personal residence.
Georgetown community members who will be on campus after the Thanksgiving break will need to get tested upon their return to campus, regardless of whether they have traveled or remained in the local area. Non-residential students, faculty and staff need to test within 5 days of their return to campus. Schedule your free test on campus via the One Medical mobile app or website.
Sign Up for A Booster Shot
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has expanded eligibility for COVID-19 booster shots to all adults 18 and older six months after receiving the second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine. A second dose of the J&J vaccine is also recommended two months after the initial shot. On-campus booster shot clinics will be held on December 3, 1:00 - 7:00 p.m., and December 4, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Faculty Club in the Leavey Center. Please register in advance. After getting a booster shot, please upload documentation of this dose via the GU360 mobile app or GU360 website.
New Stories
More people with advanced melanoma survive for two years or more when they receive a combination of two immunotherapy drugs given before a combination of two targeted therapies, if needed, compared to people who start with targeted therapies. The finding comes from a clinical trial led by Georgetown Lombardi oncology professor Michael Atkins, MD.
