The purpose of the Staff/AAP Council is to provide a formal, University-recognized, duly-elected body for staff and academic and administrative professionals (AAPs) to consider issues and act as a voice to University decision-makers, administrators and executives. Nominations are requested for the election of 15 seats to the council that will become vacant on June 30. Submit nominations here by April 23. Stephen Ray Mitchell, MD, MBA MACP, FRCP, dean emeritus, was honored in March with the Dr. Larry Zaroff Man of Good Conscience Award from the American Medical Women’s Association. The award is presented annually to a man who has been a champion and supporter of women in medicine. Dr. Larry Zaroff was a mentor to generations of physicians, medical students, and pre-medical students. A retired cardiac surgeon and later humanities professor at Stanford, he was an avid supporter of women in medicine at all stages of their career.
The GUMC Subcommittee on Faculty Diversity & Inclusion seeks short personal essays, poems, artwork or short videos that capture learner reflections that will enlighten the faculty from current learners, residents or fellows of GUMC and MedStar Health. Submissions should focus on what students wished faculty members knew before they began teaching in order to better enhance the learning process. Submissions of 100-500 words are due by April 30. 2021 Spring Universities Studying Slavery Conference
"Contemporary Legacies of Slavery: The Healthcare System" is one of several topics to be addressed at the Spring 2021 Universities Studying Slavery Virtual Hosted by Georgetown University April 15-16.
The panel conversation will take place on Friday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m. Panelists include Derek Griffith, PhD, who joins Georgetown this summer as a founding co-director of the Racial Justice Institute, and Christopher King, PhD, chair of the Department of Health Systems Administration.
