Dear Global Christian Warriors,
The recent violent "antifa" anti-police protests in Atlanta, Georgia, add a key dimension to the future of that State: will it go the way of satan, in rebellion? Or will Georgia recover its Godly roots planted in the colony generations ago? On Wednesday, February 1, God willing, we will hold a two hour zoom call to restore Godly roots. You are invited! Here are some key facts and prayer points:
Georgia was the last of the thirteen colonies and has a remarkable Christian history, with major triumphs and major defeats such as racism towards the native americans and african americans. Even today, Georgia is the center of key religious and political issues with a key african american pastor--pro abortion--- now serving in the United States Senate.
One central player in Georgia's Christian history was the world famous, highly influential 18th Century English preacher and theologian, John Wesley, founder of Methodism. His preaching and writing greatly shaped British and American religion during the Enlightenment period. Together with his brother, Charles, and with evangelist George Whitefield, John Wesley ministered for a few years in Savannah, Georgia, during its earliest days as the capitol of the Georgia Colony.
John Wesley came to Savannah in 1735 to be the third pastor of Christ Church at the invitation of James Edward Oglethorpe, founder of the new colony of Savannah.
Perhaps Wesley's most impressive feat in Georgia was his publication of a Collection of Psalms and Hymns, the first Anglican hymnal published in the United States. He also started the first Protestant Sunday School.
In Savannah the First African Baptist Church, the first Sunday School for black children was established.
In more recent history, Pastor Martin Luther King, Jr. had a key relationship with Georgia, bringing non-violent protests against racism to local and national attention. He took on "Jim Crow" anti-black laws and the Klu Klux Klan. His work continues today with his family, including Alveda King, a key speaker, singer, and writer. Her books include the central need for repentance--among all persons, as a state, and in this nation.
Prayer points for the Global Day of Repentance focusing on Georgia:
Pray that those shepherds in the house of God throughout Georgia will discover and exemplify the gift of repentance and will bear fruit worthy of repentance as a witness to many
Pray that there would be a healthy spirit of repentance for all ways by which native americans and african americans suffered in Georgia since its founding
Pray that Godly men and women will come forward to serve as public servants and advocate publicly for laws following God's Word
Pray that God's Spirit of LIFE will prevail in its citizens and its laws
Pray that God's Spirit of TRUTH will prevail in its citizens and its laws
Pray that the Kingdom of God will be preached and all will press into it (Luke 16: 16)
Pray that the Living God will be feared; idolatry will be exposed and rejected
Pray that God's Plan for the State of Georgia will go forward as a Light to other States and Nations
