Because of the threat of bad weather from Hurricane Ian, Walton will travel to North Paulding and play Thursday on Peachtree TV, with the kickoff at 8 p.m. The game is part of Score Atlanta’s “The Drive For The GHSA State Title,” which runs every Friday night, but the telecast Thursday will include its usual pregame, halftime and postgame shows, which will include guests and scores from around the state. One of those guests from his home in Florida on Zoom will be Mike Hecklinski, grandfather of Walton junior star quarterback Jeremy Hecklinksi. Interestingly, CBS46 sport director Fred Kalil will handle the play-by-play duties with recruiting expert Rusty Mansell, and Kalil actually played for Mike Hecklinski when the two lived in Indiana. Hecklinski coached Kalil at Marian High School in Mishawaka, and the two teamed up to win two state championships. Kalil would go on to walk on in football at Indiana under Hoosiers coach and ESPN personality Lee Corso. Also, on the North Paulding side, Hall of Fame McEachern coach Jimmy Dorsey will be a guest live on the set at halftime, as his grandson Major starts at cornerback for the Wolfpack. The game can be watched at Peachtree TV and streamed on the CBS46 app and the National Federation High School Network.
