Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation August 2022 News

Open House

On Saturday, August 6, 2022, over 100 guests from across Georgia attended an Open House for the unveiling of Memorial and Honorarium Bricks placed within the Tom and Mildred Bingham Memorial Garden, located at the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation’s offices and vision clinic in Chamblee. The event included guided tours of the Chamblee Vision Clinic, the recycling center, the school mobile unit and learning how to get involved.

The Garden was beautifully restored with the help of volunteers from Alcon, and Lions Trudy Rudert, Rose Silvestro, Sarah Brodd and Jack Weeks. Sara mobilized fellow master gardeners and Jack donated design, coordinated supply deliveries and logistics as well as did a great deal of working in the Garden. Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation Board of Directors contributed three special brick dedications to the Garden in memory of past board chairs, Lion Judge Haynes Townsend, Lion Grace Clower, and most recently Lion Jon Winters.

The Open House showcased Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation’s current programs and services as well as our vision to transform vision services for Georgia’s uninsured and underinsured children, adults, and seniors.

Back to School

Children throughout Georgia are back in the classroom. Educators spend countless hours preparing for their students and Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation wants students to be ready for their education. When a student’s vision is not clear their educational and social development is impaired. Many times, this can lead to behavior problems as well. Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation believes all children deserve access to affordable vision care. We bring improved sight to Georgians who need it most.

This past school year, we were able to serve nine Title 1 schools throughout the Metro Atlanta Area. Together, through the generosity of our donors and volunteer doctors, students receive a vision screening to identify if they are in need of glasses and then are seen by one of our volunteer doctors to prescribe glasses that we manufacture for the student free of charge.

Optometrists and Ophthalmologists who wish to VOLUNTEER may email Lori Miller, Chief Program Officer at [email protected] or call 404-325-3630.
