Jackets Face Disciplined Defensive Test as No. 23 Duke Visits Rain Soaked Bobby Dodd Stadium

>>The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are returning home to Historic Grant Field this Saturday, October 10 to face a formidable ACC challenge in the #23 ranked Duke Blue Devils.

>>How much the weather impacts the game remains to be seen. But, expect steady rain, heavy at times and gusty winds.

>>The Yellow Jackets (1-3, 0-1 ACC) are hungry to right the ship following a painful 34-27 road loss to Stanford in their conference opener. Despite holding a commanding 20-10 lead at halftime, a series of self-inflicted wounds and penalties cost Tech dearly on the West Coast. Now back in Atlanta, head coach Brent Key’s squad must find an answer for one of the most multi-faceted defensive units in the country.

>>Duke brings a highly disciplined and strategic style of play into Bobby Dodd Stadium, forcing opponents into uncomfortable visual adjustments before and after the snap.

>>To rebound from their penalties and secure an upset, Tech will look to ignite their offense through running back Justice Haynes as kickoff approaches under the lights at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Georgia Tech's HC Brent Key's Press Conference

Week 6 Previewing Duke

>>“They have the ability to pressure with various pressure packages, blitz and whatever. They also play man coverage and zone. They mix it up. They disguise things well...support in the run game very hard. They have tendencies...do a good job reading their tendencies on what they have. They're a well-coached team. To do one thing and look like something else, that's challenging. So, we've got to have good eyes. We've got to play with good discipline, play collective team football.

>>"Well, you can talk about motivate and lift up and this and that, or you can shut up and get better, right? The external influences in the world that everyone's around all the time, they're the ones that make things rosy or make things dark and grim, right?

>>Step through the doors of the building. I tell you where we're at with everything and you know. When two of the captains aren't on the field, it's tough for them. Maybe not a locker room. Maybe not on the sideline, but the games going on and they're not out there. It's hard. It's hard to answer some questions. It's not about a captain or a leader. It's about collectively binding to the principles and the values of the organization."

Duke's HC Manny Diaz's Press Conference Week 6 Previewing Georgia Tech

>>"The talent disparity right now in college football gives you a chance to get beat any given week. And, when I look at our matchup this week against Georgia Tech, they're a good team without a good record.

>>And the name is consistency. It's hard to be consistent when you've had as many guys out of the lineup as they've had. You talk about being down four starters in the offensive line. They get the midnight game at Stanford last week, and almost half their defensive two-deep is not available. So, a team that we believe has extraordinary talent.

>>We know they have a great coaching staff. I think Brent's one of the top head coaches in our league. He's got a great staff. So, in our mind, this is a good football team that's looking for consistency the same way we are. We did our annual bi-week self-scout review where we game plan as if we were going to play ourselves on each side of the ball and come together and share what we see.

>>And, there's plenty of things that have contributed to us winning our first four games, but, there's also plenty of things that could contribute to us meeting defeat. So, we're trying to get those things fixed before somebody fixes them for us. And, that's been the main focus right now as our bye week in addition to getting ready to go play in Atlanta.

ACC Football Power Rankings

>>The ACC picture is one big mess right now once you get past the top. Miami continues to mow down everyone else in the conference, but good luck figuring out who the next best team is. Pitt got a big win over Virginia Tech, but lost quarterback Mason Heintschel for the season. The Panthers and Duke Blue Devils are the only undefeated teams alongside Miami after week six and things are just as jumbled as you might expect.

1. Miami Hurricanes (5-0; 3-0)

(Last Week #1: Beat Clemson 41-13)

>>(This week: Bye Week)

>>Miami rolled over Clemson Saturday, 41-13 on the road and entering the bye week still atop the conference standings. The defense sacked Tigers QB Tait Reynolds six times. A rivalry matchup against FSU comes next.

2. Pitt Panthers (5-0, 2-0)
(Last Week #5: Beat Virginia Tech 35-33)

(This week: Saturday hosts N. Carolina).

>>The Panthers are the other 5-0 team in the conference after beating Virginia Tech, but the win over the Hokies was overshadowed by the loss of Mason Heintschel to injury. Still, give Pitt credit for being 5-0 and forcing 4 turnovers on the road against a team that was playing well coming in. Now, they have to figure out how to reorganize the offense. They host North Carolina this week.

3. Duke Blue Devils (4-0, 1-0)

(Last Week #2: Bye Week)

(This week: Saturday at Georgia Tech)

>>Through no fault of their own, Duke dropped a spot during their bye week. The Blue Devils are back in action this week at Georgia Tech. Expect rain and wind to be a factor.
