Positions Georgia Tech Still Needs To Address In The Transfer Portal

>>The transfer portal is live and in full effect. Georgia Tech has been busy and already has seven additions from the transfer portal. Solid additions so far, but more work to do for the Yellow Jackets to solidify their team for 2026.

>>Let’s take a look at positions that Georgia Tech still needs to address

>>Quarterback - With Haynes King graduated and Aaron Philo transferred to Florida, the Yellow Jackets are still in the market for a quarterback and have had a number of quarterbacks visit, including Beau Pribula and Anthony Colandrea. Colandrea made his decision earlier in the week to commit to Nebraska, so he is off the board for Tech. Pribula is still taking visits and is set to visit Washington soon. A name that is flying under the radar that could be an option is Jake Merklinger, who is looking for a home and played his high school ball in the Peach State at Calvary Day. It would be a nice homecoming for Merklinger, and he could battle for the QB1 spot like he did last year with Joey Aguilar. Only this time, there won’t be a veteran guy; he will be competing with just some young and inexperienced guys.

>>Wide Receiver - Georgia Tech did add Jaylen Mbakwe, which was a major addition in the portal, but they need more players to fill the position, especially with so many exits. The Yellow Jackets have lost nearly all their pass catchers from 2025. No Malik Rutherford, Eric Rivers, Isiah Canion, Bailey Stockton, Dean Patterson, Zion Taylor, and a bunch more. A few names that are set to visit Georgia Tech at the wide receiver spot are Ja’Cory Thomas, formerly of Old Dominion and Ny Carr, formerly of Miami. Carr played high school football at Colquitt County here in Georgia. Tech needs to add speed and a couple of deep threats who can make a difference down the field. With Canion gone, they also need to add a big body target who can be a red zone threat and a different maker with the 50/50 catches.

Georgia Tech football scores major transfer portal coup with ex-Michigan star RB

>>The Georgia Tech football program is currently in the midst of what could be a highly consequential offseason for the future direction of the franchise. The Yellow Jackets are coming off what was a mostly successful 2025 season in which they tapered off down the stretch but were still able to win nine games, staying in contention for the College Football Playoff throughout most of the year.

>>On Wednesday, Georgia Tech got some intriguing news in the transfer portal that should help them out in the offensive backfield, with Michigan running back Justice Haynes opting to take his talents to Atlanta, per Steve Samra of On3 Sports.

>>Haynes spent just one season with the Wolverines, a program that has been in turmoil all offseason after the firing and subsequent arrest of head coach Sherrone Moore, who was found to have had an inappropriate relationship with a staffer.

>>Meanwhile, Haynes recorded 857 yards and ten touchdowns for Michigan football last season, and likely would have finished as the team's leading rusher for the year had he not gone down with an injury late in the campaign.

Georgia Tech Lands Former UConn DL Vincent Carroll-Jackson

>>Georgia Tech has added another player from the transfer portal. The Yellow Jackets have beefed up their defensive line with the addition of UCONN transfer defensive tackle Vincent Carroll-Jackson, per Kelly Quinlan of Jackets Online and On3.

>>Carroll-Jackson started his career with the Nebraska Cornhuskers where he spent two years of his career before transferring to UCONN.

>>Georgia Tech men’s basketball looks to snap a two-game skid and get back to winning ways on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets closed their deficit to single digits late in the game at Miami, but could not complete the comeback, falling 91-81. Kowacie Reeves Jr. and Lamar Washington both logged 20-plus point outings, while Baye Ndongo added 16 points. Tech trailed by as many as 15 points in the outing before closing the gap to five in the final minutes.

>>Syracuse comes into Wednesday’s tilt looking for its first Atlantic Coast Conference win, and road win, of the season, currently sitting at 0-3 in league play. The Panthers have dropped six of their last eight games, most recently falling to Syracuse, 83-72. Cameron Corhen leads a quartet of Panthers averaging double-figure scoring numbers on the season, chipping in 13.1 points per game on average. In league play, Brandin Cummings paces the offense, averaging 13.7 points per game.

>>Wednesday’s game will be broadcast live on the ACC Network and radio coverage will be available on the Georgia Tech Sports Network by Legends Sports and Tech’s flagship station, 680 the Fan (680AM/93.7 FM). Tech’s radio broadcast will also be available on the SiriusXM app.

Strong Second Half Helps Tech Women's Hoops
Tame Tigers, 58-55

Buzz Spinning Basketball

>>A strong start coming out of the halftime locker room helped Georgia Tech women’s basketball roll to a 58-55 victory over the Clemson Tigers Sunday inside McCamish Pavilion.

>>Trailing 30-25 at the intermission, the Jackets (8-10, 3-3 ACC) cruised to a 12-2 run to open the second half and held the Tigers (12-6, 3-3 ACC) to a season-low six third quarter points on their way to a seventh home win this season.

>>Brianna Turnage once again made her presence known on the glass, capturing a career-high 18 rebounds. Not to be outdone, Talayah Walker added 22 points for her sixth-straight game scoring at least 20 – and an ACC-leading fifth in conference action. Ariadna Termis had 10 rebounds of her own, her second game with double-digit boards in her career and first this season.

>>Leading the strong third quarter for the Jackets was La’Nya Foster, who had eight of Tech’s points on the 12-2 third quarter run. She finished with 11 on the night. Erica Moon’s seven assists led the team. Turnage also had a team-high three blocks.

Yellow Jackets Hire A DC and Get New Talent In The Transfer Portal

>>The Yellow Jackets have hired a new defensive coordinator and it is not a new face. Jason Semore is going to return to The Flats, but not as a linebackers coach, as the leader of the entire defense. Semore was the linebackers coach back in 2022 for Georgia Tech, but as spent the past three seasons as the defensive coordinator at Marshall and at Southern Miss. He will look to turn around one of the worst units in the ACC.

>>In the transfer portal, Georgia Tech has been busy over the past week, adding 11 prospects, mostly along the defensive line. Will this lead to better results for the Yellow Jackets?
