Georgia Tech Opens As A Touchdown Underdog
vs 3-0 Wake Forest
| |
Georgia Tech battled back last night in Oxford, but the Yellow Jackets could not stop the Ole Miss offense in the second half who pulled away to win 48-23.
The offense was solid and could have been better if they had converted some early red zone opportunities. Again, The big issue was the defense, which allowed nearly 600 yards of offense.
While Ole Miss would win by 25 points, Georgia Tech had it within a touchdown in the 4th quarter and the game was closer than the final score made it seem.
The Yellow Jackets have been an underdog in two of the three games they have played and that is not going to change this upcoming Saturday. Georgia Tech is hitting the road again and will travel to Wake Forest on Saturday and they will do so as eight-point underdogs.
The Demon Deacons are 3-0 after defeating Old Dominion on Saturday, but they are fortunate to still be without a loss. ODU led the game by double-digits at one point in the game, but Wake Forest was able to mount the comeback.
The Demon Deacons also have wins over Elon and Vanderbilt. This is going to be the toughest test this season for Wake Forest.
The game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and can be seen as the first broadcast under a new agreement between the ACC and the CW network. That's Peachtree TV in Atlanta.

Georgia Tech's HC Brent Key's Press Conference
Wake Forest Preview
|
Georgia Tech heads to Wake Forest on Saturday to take on the 3-0 Demon Deacons. Head Coach Brent Key talked about the challenge his team faces in Winston-Salem, NC.
"They're a good all around team....coaches who have been there awhile.
"They understand who they are. That's what shows up on tape. They're a program to admire what they've done there and how he (Head Coach Dave Dawson) has built it.
"They play sound situational football. They don't beat themselves.
"You look at their defense...on third downs, red area, negative plays, sacks. Really, all of those things that matter...they do a heck of a job in."

| Wake Forest Head Coach Dave Clawson Press Conference Previewing Georgia Tech | |
“Georgia Tech is a very improved football team with a difficult schedule. They are 1-2, but have lost to an undefeated Louisville team. If they don’t fumble the ball at the 16-yard line going in with four minutes left in the fourth quarter, that’s probably a winnable game for them.
"Then the Ole Miss game, that score is deceptive. It was a one-score game in the fourth quarter. They had a chance to win it. Their new head coach, (Brent) Key, has done a really good job of assembling talent.
“If you look at who in our league has used the portal the most, it’s probably first Louisville and then Georgia Tech. They took 16 players in the portal last year, then took a bunch the year before. The amount of players on their team who started their careers at Georgia, South Carolina, Notre Dame, Michigan or Texas A&M — they have some high-level players.
"On offense it shows, because they’re averaging more than 35 points and 500 yards a game. Haynes King, the quarterback from Texas A&M, is playing at a very high level. He has good arm strength, and is really athletic and fast. Every time he throws the ball you have to defend the actual play, and if you’re not in the right rush lanes, he can take off for 40 yards. He’s athletic, fast and has a live arm.
“Their offensive line is big and physical. They have excellent skill. They have three-to-four running backs and six-to-seven receivers. They have goot slots, outside receivers and tight ends."
