The Georgia Public Library System has named Marquita Gooch-Voyd as the 2021 Librarian of the Year Gooch-Voyd serves as the Assistant Director for Technology and Training for the Clayton County Library System and is responsible for its marketing. She is credited with successfully implementing a hotspot checkout program and improving the library's technology when COVID-19 shutdowns occurred. She also grew the library's presence on social media to bring in new customers. Her best practices have been shared with others both statewide and nationally. Gooch-Voyd is the first woman of color to receive this honor.

Gwinnett County is excited to recognize the newest cohort of the Gwinnett 101 Citizens Academy which started this week. Participants in this program get a behind the scenes look at how the county operates, interact with leaders in county government, visit county facilities and build a network with others who live, work and learn in Gwinnett County. Several counties across the state marked April as Childhood Abuse Prevention Month with blue pinwheels. In Dade County, this initiative was led by Dade First Family Connections, the Children's Advocacy Center, DFCS, the Dade County Sheriff's Office and the Lookout Mountain Drug Task Force.

April also is County Government Month across the country. Since 1991, the National Association of Counties (NACo) has encouraged counties to use this month to actively promote the programs and services they offer. NACo provides many resources to help explain why "Counties Matter."
