Putnam County Invites Community to Celebrate County Government Month
As part of Putnam County's celebraton of National County Government Month, the county hosted its first "Government Fun Day." The purpose of the event was to highlight effective county programs and raise public awareness about the services provided by the county. Citizens had the opportunity to meet elected officials and employees, tour the administration building and participate in activities and games.
ACCG & GMA Host Local Government Roundable in Cherokee County
ACCG and GMA recently hosted a local government roundtable in Cherokee County with Congressman Barry Loudermilk and local officials. Those participating in this meeting included GMA Director of Federal Relations and Research Becky Taylor, Congressman Barry Loudermilk, Bartow County Sole Commissioner & ACCG President Steve Taylor, Cherokee County Chairman Harry Johnston, Woodstock Mayor Michael Caldwell and ACCG Associate Legislative Director Kathleen Bowen.
Murray County Opens New Fire Station
Murray County recently cut the ribbon on a new fire station in an under-served area of the county where they had water lines but no fire station within a five mile radius causing people in this area to have higher insurance premiums than those in other parts of the county. The new station houses multiple fire trucks and an ambuloance from Advent Health, the local hospital. The station and equipment were paid for using SPLOST funds.
Revolutionary War Hero Honored in Chattooga County
Revolutionary War Patriot Daniel O'Rear was honored on Saturday, April 9, 2022 with the placement of a marker by the Henry Clay Chapter, NSDAR, from Annadale, Virginia, and the William Marsh Chapter, NSDAR, from LaFayette, Georgia. The dedication ceremony was held at the gravesite of Daniel O'Rear at Macedonia Cemetery in Chattooga County.
Toombs County Celebrates $44 Million Economic Development Announcement
Toombs County celebrated the announcement of a $44 million investment by East Jordan Plastics, one of the largest horticultural container manufacturers in North America, resulting in 80 new jobs for the area. Participating in the announcement included Senator Blake Tillery, company executives Vice President Nathan Diller, Vice President Matt Diller and President Scott Diller; along with Taylor Kielty and others with the Georgia Departmant of Economic Development,

ACCG held its final conference planning team meeting this week, putting the finishing touches on the 2022 ACCG Annual Conference. The conference is jam-packed with Lifelong Learning Academy classes, engaging speakers, continuing education sessions, the traditional Buyers Mart and Farm House and a fun Saturday evening event featuring a live band and the return of the oyster roast.
