Fulton County Prepares to Open New Behavioral Health Crisis Center

Fulton County officials and state leaders recently gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new Fulton County Behavioral Health Crisis Center, the first publicly-funded facility of its kind. The center, which features 24 beds and 16 chairs, will be supported by the Grady Health System. Although the center is not officially open, it aims to provide a safe and welcoming environment for mental health care.

Calhoun County Embraces Innovation for Road Maintenance Training


The Calhoun County Road Department enhanced its road maintenance skills and safety using a training simulator. This simulator provided realistic, immersive experiences for workers to practice operating different types of heavy equipment. Additionally, they learned best practices for managing unpaved roads and restoring culverts, roadbeds, and turnouts.

Douglas County Celebrates Summer Interns with a Graduation Ceremony


Douglas County held a graduation ceremony for 21 summer interns to recognize their hard work and contributions to the community. During the graduation program, the interns presented end-of-summer projects focused on public safety, transit, animal services, voter registration, and litter prevention before receiving their certificates from Assistant County Administrator Tiffany Stewart-Stanley.

GCIP Intern Repurposes Materials for School Teachers

In Floyd County, Berry College student Anna Ayers is working with the county recycling department to create a “re-use” store. During the summer, Ayers collected and catalogued new and gently used school supplies to stock the store. She also developed and designed promotional materials for the store, which opened to teachers in the county prior to the start of the school year. Read more about Ayers' internship here in a recent issue of ACCG's CountyLine newsletter.

Columbus-Muscogee Councilwoman Celebrates National Night Out

Columbus-Muscogee County Councilwoman Toyia Tucker recently participated in National Night Out activities with public safety personnel, elected officials, and community partners. National Night Out is an annual campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Tucker also serves as the consolidated government representative on the ACCG Board of Managers.

ACCG and GMA Hosts Roundtable with Congressman Mike Collins


ACCG and the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) hosted a roundtable discussion with Rep. Mike Collins (GA-10), county and city officials from the 10th District. The group covered a range of topics, including community resiliency, infrastructure improvements, Next Generation 911, housing, and mental health legislation. These discussions highlighted the challenges Georgia communities face and explored potential actions to help address these issues.

Troup County Hosts ACCG Leadership Institute


Several Georgia county officials traveled to Troup County to participate in the ACCG Leadership Institute. Facilitated by instructors from the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government (CVIOG), the Leadership Institute emphasizes the importance of assessing personal communication styles and building relationships with others.
