Dougherty County Hosts South ACCG Policy Committee Meetings

The second round of ACCG Policy Committee Meetings took place in Dougherty County on August 21 - 22. Several Georgia county officials and staff participated in candid discussions on issues of importance to counties, such as mental health reform and elections. Similar to the North Policy Committee Meetings, county officials recommended the top three legislative priorities, from each committee, for the Policy Council to consider for ACCG’s 2025 Policy Agenda.

Dougherty County Commissioner Shines Light on Local Government

Dougherty County Commissioner and ACCG First Vice President Clinton Johnson connected with a local news station during the South Policy Committee Meetings. During his segment, he promoted the purpose of the ACCG Policy Committee Meetings and highlighted the efforts of county officials and staff in making sure the issues advocated for by the association effectively address the needs and concerns of Georgia residents. Forsyth County Awarded BioReady Bronze Community Designation


Forsyth County has earned a BioReady Bronze Community designation from Georgia Bio, highlighting its growing role in the life sciences sector. To achieve this designation, Forsyth County set up a direct “pipeline” process that allows bio-related industries to easily connect with county and chamber staff for future growth opportunities. 

GCIP Intern Promotes Workplace Safety in Columbus-Muscogee County


Khayla Truitt, a rising sophomore at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, interned in Columbus-Muscogee County. Truitt, who studies journalism and public relations, worked on the risk management team in the human resources department. As an intern, Truitt helped to brainstorm, develop, and host a risk and safety awareness community event in the county. She also coordinated with county departments to organize activities and created promotional materials for the event. 

Lowndes County Celebrates Georgia Grown Trail Designation


Recently, the historic Lowndes County Courthouse celebrated being added to the Georgia Grown Trail: 41. This exciting achievement for Lowndes County will "grow" AgriTourism, attracting visitors to the Valdosta Historic District and Lowndes County. The Georgia Grown Trails, which began nearly a decade ago, are designed to highlight all the fantastic agriculture-related tourism hot spots throughout Georgia, promoting Georgia’s number one industry, agriculture. The historic Lowndes County Courthouse has a gift shop with locally curated Georgia Grown items as well as shirts, hats, postcards, and more. 

Cherokee County E-911 Training Program Earns Re-Certification


Cherokee County E-911 received an Agency Training Program Certification from the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International. Since obtaining its initial certification in 2013, the agency's dedication to recertification reflects its ongoing commitment to serving both citizens and first responders in the community.
