County Officials Convene in Columbia County for ACCG's

Federal Policy Committee Meeting

County officials from across the state gathered in Columbia County on August 26 for the final ACCG Policy Committee Meeting. The Federal Policy Committee, which addresses federal issues critical to Georgia’s counties, met for engaging discussions on key topics such as Next Generation 911 and housing. Attendees heard from Briar Owen, a representative from Sen. Jon Ossoff’s office, on the HELPER Act which establishes a new, one-time use home loan program for first responders and teachers to purchase their first home. Click here to learn more.

Camden County Awarded Community Wildfire Defense Program Grant

 

The Camden County Board of Commissioners recently accepted a $210,000 Community Wildfire Defense Program grant to fund the creation of a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). This funding, provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service and managed by the Georgia Forestry Commission, will help enhance the county’s wildfire preparedness and safety.

GCIP Intern Steps into the World of Finance in Jasper County


Jackson Walker Byrd, a finance student at Liberty University, interned with Jasper County's finance department to explore career opportunities in the finance field. During his internship, he collaborated with the county manager to develop an inventory tracking system to improve auditing and capital asset budgeting.

ACCG Department Heads Connect with Savannah Partners

Leaders of the ACCG Leadership Development and Conferences & Meetings teams connected with staff at the Savannah Convention Center to discuss the 2025 ACCG Annual Conference and the role of the recently established conferences & meetings team. While there, they toured the convention center for a look at the progress of the renovations.

Lamar County Receives FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant

Lamar County recently received a $1 million grant from FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters program.  The county, which received the largest portion of the grant, is eager to utilize the funds to enhance the fire department's ability to serve the community.
