Cobb County 911 Systems Administrator Honored with a 2023 APCO Award


During the 2023 Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International Conference, Cobb County 911 Systems Administrator Vaughan Nasse (third from left) received the 2023 Information Technologist of the Year Award. This award recognizes emergency communications center staff who demonstrate exceptional skills, dedication and innovation in the technical aspects of public safety communications.

Emergency Operations Personnel Discusses Hurricane Idalia


Area officials recently met at the Lowndes County Emergency Operations Center to receive an update on Hurricane Idalia. ACCG Director of County Consulting Services Bill Twomey participated in the meeting.

Harris County Welcomes Automotive Supplier Daesol Ausys 


Harris County is excited to welcome a new company to the community. Automotive Supplier Daesol Ausys is set to open a new manufacturing facility in West Point. The facility will create more than 140 new jobs and a $72 million investment in the county.

Clayton County Ranks 10th in the National 2023 Digital Counties Survey


Clayton County received a top 10 national recognition in the Center for Digital Government’s 2023 Digital Counties Survey for populations 250,000 – 499,999. The survey identifies the best technology practices among U.S. counties, including initiatives that streamline delivery of government services, provide data analytics to allow decisions based on performance and outcomes, enhance cybersecurity, and apply innovative and emerging technologies to county priorities.

ACCG Board Members Participate in Exclusive Historic Tour


Columbus-Muscogee County Councilor and ACCG Board Member Toyia Tucker recently hosted an exclusive tour of the Gertrude "MA" Rainey House & Blues Museum for ACCG Immediate Past President and Tift County Commissioner Melissa Hughes and members of PLIGHT (Proud Loving Individuals Giving a Hand to Teens) during the organization’s 18th Annual Retreat. Gertrude "MA" Rainey was an American blues singer and a Columbus native who was posthumously awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. 

DeKalb County Fire Chief Named Georgia Chief of the Year


The Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs has named DeKalb County Fire Chief Darnell Fullum the 2023 Fire Chief of the Year. Since 2017, Chief Fullum has been instrumental in several initiatives including using SPLOST funds to launch a fleet of rapid response vehicles, repairing and building new fire stations, and advocating for better pay resulting in the county offering one of the highest starting salaries for new recruits.

Pickleball Courts Coming to Haralson County


Haralson County has added six new pickle ball courts to the Recreation Department. As the fastest growing sport in America, they are sure to fill up soon. Many residents have been anxiously awaiting the completion of the project. The project was funded by SPLOST dollars. The pickleball courts will officially open during the ribbon cutting ceremony in early September.

2023 ACCG Legislative Leadership Conference - Registration Now Open

Registration is open now for the Legislative Leadership Conference. Join ACCG, your county colleagues, and state leaders on October 11-13 at the Jekyll Island Convention Center in Glynn County for the Association’s fall policy conference. Attend the LLC to ensure your county's concerns are considered when voting on the 2024 Proposed Policy Agenda and Legislative Priorities and to participate in several engaging educational opportunities.
