ACCG and CVIOG Welcome New Class of County Commissioners

ACCG and CVIOG welcomed more than 150 newly elected county officials in Athens-Clarke County for the 2024 Newly Elected Commissioners Conference (NECC). For three days, commissioners engaged in educational sessions, networked with peers, and gained a better understanding of the basics of county government.

Dade County Clerk/CFO Don Townsend Recognized as Certified County Commissioner


Don Townsend, who currently serves as the Dade County clerk and chief financial officer, is one of the first newly elected county commissioners to become a Certified County Commissioner prior to starting in office. He was recognized for this rare achievement during NECC.

Lowndes County EMA Director Recognized During IAEM Awards Banquet



Lowndes County Emergency Management Director Ashley Tye was recognized at the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) awards banquet for obtaining an Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) certification. Ashley is currently one of only 375 individuals worldwide to hold the AEM certification.

GCIP Internship Leads to Sharpened Skills and Part-time Employment


Augusta University student Aaliyah Clark interned as a management fellow in communications with the Augusta-Richmond County Administrator’s Office. She worked on researching, drafting, editing, and producing original social media and web content which helped hone her communication skills. She now works part-time for the county while she finishes her studies.

Henry County Parks and Recreation Get Festive for the

Annual City of McDonough Christmas Parade

Henry County Parks and Recreation joined the festive spirit at the annual City of McDonough Christmas Parade. Their Christmas float commemorated 50 years of parks and recreation.  

Georgia County Excellence Awards Nomination Deadline Extended to Dec. 13

ACCG and Georgia Trend are once again hosting the Georgia County Excellence Awards. Counties that have taken innovative and cost-effective approaches to solving local issues with local programs and initiatives are encouraged to apply. Applications will be accepted until Friday, December 13, 2024. To apply, click here.
