Governor Kemp and Local Officials Welcome Rivian
for Single-Largest Economic Development Project in State History
This week, Governor Brian Kemp announced that Rivian Inc. will invest $5 billion in a carbon-conscious campus in Georgia for its electric vehicles. Rivian will create approximately 7,500 jobs on just under 2,000 acres of property represented by the Joint Development Authority of Jasper, Morgan, Newton and Walton counties. Once operations are fully ramped up, the Georgia facility will be capable of producing up to 400,000 vehicles per year. New Habersham County Commissioner Sworn In
Local business owner Ty Akins was sworn in this week as Habersham County's District 5 Commissioner. Propbate Judge Pamela F. Wooley conducted the ceremony at the Habersham County Courthouse.
More County Holiday Fun
Carroll County found a unique was to decorate the front of the Judicial Center next to the historic courthouse. The Maintenance Department hand made large wooden ornaments that showcased the various county departments and placed them around the tree. Carroll County Chairman Michelle Morgan and her leadership team joined in the fun by posing with their ornaments!
Lamar County Celebrates
"A Country Christmas"
Lamar County kicked off its holiday season with a Country Christmas parade. The local governments started the parade last year as a way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Lamar County. The parade was an instant favorite, especially among the kids.
Lowndes County Names
Farmers of the Year Awards
The Lowndes County Board of Commissioners, Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce and the Lowndes County Extension Offie held a farmer appreciation breakfast and presented the 2021 Farmer of the Year Awards this week. Aaron Horne (pictured center) with Horne Legacy Farms was named Small Farmer of the Year. The agriculture industry represents more than $337 million in annual farm gate value within Lowndes and Echols counties.

About Schuyler: Schuyler loves to travel with friends, attend concerts, write, give back to her community through volunteering, cheer on the Atlanta Hawks and spend time with her family. She has two nieces, Anaiya (17) and Nora (5), and one goddaughter Sydney (5) and looks forward to having her own family one day. Schuyler is also a twin and has written opinion pieces for the AJC.
