ACCG & CVIOG Welcome the Class of 2022

ACCG and CVIOG welcomed 107 newly elected county officials in Athens-Clarke County for the 2022 Newly Elected Commissioners Conference (NEC). For three days, commissioners engaged in educational sessions, networked with peers, and gained a better understanding of the basics of county government.

Houston County Celebrates Chairman Tommy Stalnaker's 50 Years of Service

Houston County recently honored Chairman Tommy Stalnaker with a retirement celebration. Chairman Stalnaker has worked for Houston County for 50 years - 38 in the public works department and 12 as county chairman. He is set to retire at the end of the year. ACCG Executive Director Dave Wills and Deputy Legislative Director Todd Edwards attended the celebration.

Former Houston County Chairman Ned Sanders and ACCG Executive Dave Wills. Sanders served as county chairman for 10 years prior to Chairman Stalnaker. Sanders was also present at the retirement party.

Spalding County Hosts Motor Coach Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Spalding County hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new motor coach funded by Transportation-Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST). The ceremony was attended by county and city leaders as well as members of the Makin Tracks Travel Club.

Forysyth County Recognizes Kevin Tanner for Service as County Manager

Forsyth County recently celebrated former County Manager Kevin Tanner for his dedicated service to the county. Prior to joining Forsyth County in 2021, he was a four-term state representative and had also served as county manager in Dawson County. Tanner's departure from the county comes following his appointment by Gov. Kemp as the new commissioner of the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. 

Bryan County Plants New Trees in the Community

Bryan County is working endlessly to rebuild the community after a tornado swept through earlier this year. As a result of the tornado, over 250 trees were blown down. The Coastal Bryan Tree Foundation Inc., stepped in to help restore the lost trees by planting 41 trees in Hendrix Park.
