Lowndes County Hosts Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Community Project

On Thursday, January 27 the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners broke ground on the former Griner property. The property will be transformed into a new community greenspace and interactive park. This park will be an epicenter for creative collaborations between Lowndes County Government and organizations throughout the Lowndes County community. The project is expected to be completed later this summer.

Douglas County Fire Chief Named a Top Finalist for State EMS Director of the Year Award

The Georgia Emergency Medical Services Association recently announced that Douglas County Fire/EMS Chief Roderick B. Jolivette as one of four finalists for the 2022 State of Georgia Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Director of the Year Award. The award will be presented to a current Georgia EMS Director who has contributed significantly to EMS at community, regional, and/or state level. 

The Brunswick Rockin’ Stewbilee Makes a Long-Awaited Return

After being postponed due to COVID-19, the Brunswick Rockin’ Stewbilee, put on by the Kiwanis Club of Brunswick, made its return in Brunswick, GA. The day was filled with a Brunswick Stew cooking competition, music, a classic car show, and more. Glynn County Commissioner David Sweat served as a judge on the stew cooking competition where Glynn County Clerk of Superior Court Ron Adams and his team won second place.

 

Did you know: Both Brunswick County, Virginia and Brunswick, Georgia claim to be home of the Brunswick stew. Legend has it that the first pot was cooked up in 1898 in Brunswick, Georgia.

A Behind the Scenes Look at a Day at the Capitol

The ACCG Governmental Affairs team were captured working hard at the Georgia state capitol on Wednesday, February 1. Kathleen Bowen and Todd Edwards welcomed former Colquitt County Administrator Chas Cannon as the newly elected state representative serving House District 172.

Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jones Awarded 2022 ACCG Legislative Service Award

Deputy Director of Governmental Affairs Todd Edwards recently presented Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jones with her 2022 ACCG Legislative Service Award for her efforts to help advance Georgia’s counties during last session. 

Help ACCG Honor Local Leaders and Innovative County Programs in Your Community by Submitting Nominations for the 2023 ACCG Awards

ACCG is now accepting nominations for the 2023 ACCG Awards & Recognition Program and the 2023 Georgia County Excellence Awards. Both award programs provide an opportunity to showcase the talented leaders and innovative programs within your county. Award recipients will be honored at the 2023 ACCG Annual Conference in Savannah/Chatham County this April.

The deadline for the 2023 Georgia County Excellence Awards is quickly approaching! Nominations must be submitted by February 17.
