Glynn County Commissioner Attends Live Fire Training

This week Glynn County Commissioner Bo Clark participated in the live fire training hosted by Glynn County Fire Rescue as a "geared up" observer. Commissioner Clark was given an overview of fire training objectives, firefighter rehab procedure for incidents/training, and instruction for firefighter turnout gear and use of SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus.) He experienced firsthand what it feels like for a firefighter to make an entry into a controlled room and contents fire.

L.B."Buzz" Ahrens served on the ACCG Board of Managers from 2012- 2018. He also chaired the ACCG Defined Benefits Board.

L.B. "Buzz" Ahrens Recreation Center Grand Opening at Cherokee Veteran Park

Cherokee Recreation and Parks recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the new L.B. "Buzz" Ahrens Recreation Center at Cherokee Veterans Park. The new recreation center features a double gym, an open fitness area, a climbing wall, two classrooms, an aerobics/dance studio, a large meeting hall, and a catering kitchen. Georgia Fire Marshals Sworn in at State Capitol

In celebration of Firefighter Recognition Day, Pickens County Fire Marshal, Shane Callahan, was sworn in at the Georgia Capitol on February 7, 2023, by Georgia Insurance Commissioner John King. The ceremony was also led by Georgia State Fire Marshal Craig Landolt.

Fayetteville's Choisnet Wins "Wheel of Fortune" Prize



Wheel of Fortune put Fayette County in the spotlight on Wednesday, February 8 as part of the long-running game show’s “Wheel Across America” week. Lindsey Choisnet, an Engineering Technician at Fayette County’s Water Department, participated and won the big prize of the day.

Lowndes County and Georgia Power Reveal Electric Vehicle Charging Stations.


In partnership with Georgia Power, the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners recently cut the ribbon on the electric vehicle charging stations located in the Lowndes County Judicial & Administrative Complex that are now available to the public.

The new electric vehicle charging stations were made possible through Georgia Power’s Community Charging program. As such, they were installed at no cost to Lowndes County.

County Officials Visit with the Governmental Affairs Team at the State Capitol


The ACCG Governmental Affairs Team had some special visitors at the state capitol this week. Kevin Lewis, Macon County manager, joined the staff in testifying in favor of HB 193 which increases the public bid requirement threshold for public works projects. The Governmental Affairs Team also got a visit from the Chattooga County Sole Commissioner Blake Elsberry and the executive director of his local chamber of commerce, Cindy McGraw.

Help ACCG Honor Local Leaders and Innovative County Programs in Your Community by Submitting Nominations for the 2023 ACCG Awards

ACCG is now accepting nominations for the 2023 ACCG Awards & Recognition Program and the 2023 Georgia County Excellence Awards. Both award programs provide an opportunity to showcase the talented leaders and innovative programs within your county. Award recipients will be honored at the 2023 ACCG Annual Conference in Savannah/Chatham County this April.

The deadline for the 2023 Georgia County Excellence Awards is quickly approaching! Nominations must be submitted by February 17.
